Another of our 2020 Estate whites noted for its lifted fruit intensity, this latest Riesling release is typically floral and citrusy with a lemon/lime juice sparkling acidity that sears and refreshes across the palate. It is the searing acidity of the 2020 Riesling, similar to its big sister Marsanne, which will hold it in good stead for further development in the cellar over another eight to ten years.
90 Points - Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front
“It’s driven by lime and mandarin oranges but it’s so punched up with flavour that it almost tips into tropical fruit territory. It works here, thanks in part to the drive of acidity, to the freshness, to the wine’s overall zip. A slate-like character also keeps things under control. No hesitation for me. It’s good value and drinking.
Jeni Port - James Halliday Wine Companion
"Available to Tahbilk Wine Club members only. Riesling has long been grown at Tahbilk, producing an every-person kind of wine with widespread appeal, intended for early consumption. It jumps out of the glass with riesling appeal: lime, citrus, apple, grapefruit pith dancing to the tune of racy acidity. Still early days, but developing a nice waxy texture on the palate."
Amanda Yallop - The Real Review
"Lemon colour with hints of gold. Vivid aromas of limes leaves and feijoas. Supple mouthfeel, precise acidity and a generous body aside guava and sweet citrus leading to a zesty finish"
Selector Magazine, ‘The Rise of Riesling’
“As one of the few Victorians in the ‘Rise of Riesling’ tasting, this wine flew the flag high. Coming from vines planted in 1975 on Tahbilk’s Nagambie Lakes estate, this Riesling has a fragrant nose packed full of lime zest, apples and white flowers. The flavours are fresh and dominated by green apple, lime and grapefruit. The palate is framed with soft acidity, which gives a smooth and silken texture, making it very approachable.”
Second only to Marsanne in terms of the age of our Estate White plantings - 1975 might no be 1927, but they are some significantly old vines! – our Riesling is destined to always sit in Marsanne’s shadow. Allow it to step out into the light and you quickly recognise that intensity of flavour and lively refreshment are the two pillars of our Riesling releases. .
