Discover bold Victorian character in The Derek Shiraz 2022, a richly expressive red wine sourced from premium vineyards in the Grampians sub-region — home to some of Australia’s most esteemed Shiraz. Rated 92 points by Sam Kim of Wine Orbit and produced by a trophy-winning winery previously awarded Victorian Wine of the Year, this release captures the strength and sophistication of cool-climate Shiraz.


In the glass, it displays a deep dark purple-black core with a red-brick rim. Aromatically intense, it offers ripe blackcurrant and mulberry, layered with earthy undertones and subtle oak. The palate is superbly balanced, delivering a compelling blend of spicy, sweet, and savoury notes, supported by chalky tannins and fresh acidity.


Its complexity and structure make it an ideal match for chargrilled venison, slow-braised beef cheeks, eggplant parmigiana, or roasted beetroot and goat cheese tart. For cheese lovers, try it with mature cheddar or Manchego for a beautiful harmony of fruit and umami.


Built to impress now with decanting, The Derek will also reward careful cellaring for the next 5–8 years thanks to its persistent finish and strong acid backbone.

Technical:

Sourced from premium vineyards in Grampians sub region of Victoria. The fruit was crushed then underwent cold macerating. Fermented in open top fermenters with regular pump over’s to extract both colour and tannin. Following another week of maceration the dry free run is drained to tank. The skins are then pressed and the pressings transferred to the same tank, the wine is then racked with select parcels going into barrel. The wine is aged in older French oak hogsheads then bottled after 12 months maturation with minimal fining and filtration.
