Complex and opulent, with the fine, layered structure, elegance and finesse we have come to expect of the Medlands Vineyard. The palate is laden with pure, rich, dark berry flavours, given tight focus with fine, spicy French oak. A sleek, silky teture, definitive tannin line, andlingering finish give rise to a wine of grace, stature and presence.

Accolades & Awards:
Wolf Blass Platinum Medlands Vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018

97 Point Rated, James Halliday Wine Companion

"Limited Release. Selectiv' harvested, open fermented, 5 separate parcels fermented and matured for 18 months in French oak (23% new), then assessed and blended, the hue vibrant. Any thought of blockbuster is instantly dismissed with the 1st taste. It is an elegant medium-bodied wine, albeit with a compelling blend of blackberry, spice and plum. The oak integrated, tannins perfectly pitched behind the fruit. Gold medals Barossa and Royal Adelaide Wine Shows ’20."

96 Point Rated, Ray Jordan Wine Pilot

"This comes from an old vineyard in the heart of the Barossa Valley. Wow there’s a lot happening here. The nose displays a mix of black and blue fruits with spices, liquorice and coffee grounds aromas. The palate is concentrated and intense. The wine gets all French oak and only 23% of this is new making a most stylish expression of Barossa shiraz but you can’t take that power away – it’s there in abundance. This will cellar for many years."

96 Point Rated, Jeni Port Winepilot

"The pick of the newly released Wolf Blass Luxury Collection, Platinum Label also happens to be the wine with the highest price tag. This wine simply sings the strongest of the group, has a more immediate and compelling presence with a fineness in detail.Fruit was sourced from the Medlands Vineyard at Dorrien just a bit down the road from the Wolf Blass winery and visitors centre. The single vineyard produces a striking magenta-purple colour. Foliage, briar, earth meet the nose together with black berries. It’s on the ripe side – 14.5% ABV – and so the usual Barossa sweet berried fruits are a notable feature.  In keeping with the general move in Australian winemaking circles towards a degree of savouriness in reds, Platinum brings forth a ferrous/iron quality. Love the overall balance on display here together with the decision to employ only French oak  – 28% of it new – during its 17 months maturation. It brings effortless structure and length."

96 Point Rated, Andrew Cailard MW, Langton's

"This is a generously proportioned wine with dark chocolate/plum fruit profile and plenty of mocha new oak notes. The wine is very popular on the secondary wine market, but it has downgraded the reputation of Black Label. This is the problem with marketing wine like card services. However the wines at the top level, including the Gold Label Riesling, are bloody good and offer great value when compared to some of the hyped-up prices of cult wine and that ilk."

95 Point Rated, Huon Hooke Expert Review

"Deep, saturated purple colour that stains the glass. The bouquet is reserved and slightly hidden, showing dominant mocha and toasty oak aromas. The wine is powerful and driving in the mouth, with masses of tannin and concentration to match. Dried herbs and 'forest floor'. A tarry, graphite note lingers long. This is a whopper, which needs time and will richly benefit from cellaring."

94 Point Rated, Ken Gargett Expert Review

"Deep purple and opened with a complex nose. Truffles, dark berries, mulberries, chocolate, coffee grinds, animal skins. This is exhibiting more savoury notes than the cabernet and is powerful, coiled and concentrated with a gentle casing of oak. Tannins are abundant but still a little chewy. This lacks the immediate gratification offered by the cabernet sauvignon, but is still a wine with a serious future. It will be better with time and likely to be several points higher in a decade."

94 Point Rated, Mike Bennie Expert Review

"A full and powerful shiraz, very dense and dark, brooding, sweet berried fruit, booze soaked forest berries, woody spice, a bit of tobacco and cinnamon in there too. Chewy tannins roll strong and long in the wine, masking some fruit, puckering to dry. The feel is of a wine in stasis, a bit firm to be approached now and without some of the easy pleasure of some Platinum releases, or at least the awe. It’s very good, anyway, potent and formidable in its structure and carriage of flavour. Bold, fancy red lovers I wager will be satisfied with the lip-smacking. striking wine in the glass."

Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz 2018

95 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Winepilot

"The twin to our Langhorne Creek Grey, and what a terrific pair they make. The straight Shiraz is from McLaren Vale and, in a fine vintage like 2018, this wine drinks well above its price. It is cracking value. The supple texture and lovely soft plushness here is a joy. Concentrated, sure, but gentle as well and lovely length too. It also offers the usual quality oak treatment one expects with any top of the line Blass wine with flavours of dark chocolate, mulberries, cloves, black cherries and more. Quite how Blass manage to walk the tightrope of full flavours and serious oak yet offer wines which seem so fresh and even elegant remains a mystery. Plenty of tannin but so soft as to be almost invisible. It has a good decade ahead – what is not to love?"

90 Point Rated - Ned Goodwin Halliday Wine Companion

"I recall this cuvée as being a reliable go-to. The French and American oak cladding feels about the same: charred espresso vanillans; resinous, dark-accented and intense fruit flavours. More reductive florals, in line with contemporary trends. The finish is forceful and long by virtue of the wine's sheer weight, extract and bitter jarring tannins. The tannin management needs some attention, but it will have plenty of fans."

Wolf Blass Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Malbec 2019

97 Point Rated, Tyson Stelzer Wine Magazine

"The mastery of blending Cabernet and Shiraz (with a little Malbec) in the regional tapsetry of the Barossa, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills furnished marvelous opportunity, even in the warm and dry 2019 season. The result unites tremendous depth of glossy black fruits, liquorice and dark chocolate with a vibrancy, drive and structural poise like no other blend can muster. The glide of super-fine Cabernet tannins is something to behold in the presence of earth-shaking endurance that promises to hold it strong for half a century."

96 Point Rated, Stuart Knox The Real Review

95 Point Rated, Campbell Mattinson Halliday Wine Companion

"Sourced from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. Matured in French and American oak (24% new). This is a beefy release with caramel, toast, scorched plum and dark earth flavours rumbling through the palate. The alcohol feels warm and the oak appears overt, but the fruit is intense and the finish is satisfying."
