The wine is a dark and intense red. With Cabernet Sauvignon predominant, Mouton Rothschild displays a complex range of aromas. From lightly toasted vanilla notes, the nose opens with airing to develop fruit aromas, especially black currant and black cherry. The attack shows great complexity, while powerful and well-integrated tannins reveal exceptional depth and roundness. A fresh and mineral finish rounds off this highly elegant wine.
This Pauillac 1st Growth is often considered the ‘wine of the vintage’, usually for its more flamboyant, overt showing, but there is little denying that Chateau Mouton-Rothschild comes with an incredible reputation, and a rightful place amongst the great wines of Bordeaux since elevation to the upper tier in 1973. While the impeccable estate is divided to 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, this wine sees 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot from the phenomenal harvest of 2010. The wine is as gloriously perfumed and infinitely complex as expected, with the luxurious mouth-feel of great Mouton wines. Cellaring will be repaid from now to 60-or-so year. A must do for collectors of fine wine.

"This is pure Cabernet Sauvignon magic with incredible aromas of currants, blackberries and light spices. Tiny hints of hazelnut. Wet earth. Full body, with super velvety tannins. The purity of fruit is breathtaking. It goes on for minutes. This is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot. Try after 2020."

"A legendary wine, probably one of the best ever. Balance, power, silk. If you and your friends were to splurge on just one wine in your life, this would be a fine choice."

"Smoked grilled tar on the nose, it feels both very 2010 and supremely Mouton - accomplished and confident. A more glamorous, enticing edge than the other Pauillac Firsts at this 10 year window. There are plentiful tannins but they are lined with air, and the overall feel is of plush, plumped fruits, like being rolled-up in luxurious sheets. It is very different in character to the other two Pauillac Firsts, but no less enjoyable. It feels higher in alcohol, more Cos than Lafite in terms of personality, in the way that Pichon Baron is more Latour than Comtesse, but it is nuanced and clever and surprising."

"Tasted at the Mouton-Rothschild vertical in London, the 2010 Mouton-Rothschild is a modern-day benchmark for the First Growth and here, side-by-side with the 2009, it certainly has its nose in front. It is in possession of quite breathtaking delineation and precision, a crystalline bouquet with black fruit laced with minerals, potent pencil shaving notes, a touch of cold slate. It is totally entrancing. The palate has beguiling symmetry, but for me what really distinguishes this Mouton is its effortlessness. Like watching Usain Bolt in his prime sprinting to another world record, this wine is almost self-effacing in terms of its brilliance. Will Philippe Dhalluin ever better this Mouton-Rothschild? Keep it in the cellar for 15 years, if you know what's good for you."

"Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Mouton Rothschild is a little closed to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal notes of baked black cherries, crème de cassis, blackberry compote and bouquet garni with suggestions of sweaty leather, pencil lead, cedar chest and black truffles plus a hint of crushed rocks. Full-bodied, the palate is solidly constructed of super firm, ripe, grainy tannins and lively acidity, framing the densely packed black fruit, finishing on a persistent mineral note. Drink Date 2023 - 2060."

"At 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and only 6% Merlot (Mouton's famed gravel soils are not the friendliest of media to Merlot in hot years) a deep, refined but powerful Mouton, verging on the austere currently. Pure raspberry and blackcurrant on the nose and palate, complicated by oriental spices all supported by polished if youthfully chewy tannins. Tasted at the Decanter Fine Wine Encounter Shanghai, November 2015."
