Tasting Notes:

This vibrant Shiraz from Cape Barren in McLaren Vale is full of ripe black fruits, spice, liquorice and anise aromas with delicate hints of French oak. The full-bodied palate is silky smooth with highlights of blackcurrant, liquorice, mocha and spices. The elegant soft tannins lead to a long lasting, luscious finish.

Technical:

Cape Barren Old Vine Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz Original vines were selected from Spain to select vines especially suited to the very cool climate of Charleston. And the result is a complex blend of 8 different varieties but all perfect to be grown in the Adelaide Hills Vineyards. The grapes were harvested by hand, crushed. Where cultured yeast is added and fermentation is carried out for 8 days. Pumping occurs twice daily and the temperature is kept between 23-25 degrees Celsius. The wine has been aged in 100% new French oak barrels and rests in the wine for another 7 months.

Fruit from 2 vineyards, 77 and 105yo vines. This is nicely done. While it doesn't pull any contemporary surprises, it is round, rich, fleshy and vinous. Beautiful balance of gushing fruit and nicely positioned oak, conducting the long flow of kirsch, clove, licorice and baking spice flavours.
