Tasting Notes:

Aromas and flavours of peach, nashi pear and green apple. The finish is crisp and clean acidity.

Technical:

Winemaker Darryl Catlin carefully selects the best parcels of fruit according to ripeness from the various blocks of Chardonnay that are made up of three French Chardonnay clones. Each clone has its own flavour spectrum that is individual, where some are picked earlier to obtain citrus characters and other clones are picked later to obtain melon and grapefruit flavours. Once picked, the bunches were sorted and gently pressed, prior to wild ferment and maturation in 100% French oak, 25% new for 10 months. Barrel selected prior to bottling.

"Produced from a combination of estate parcels, different clones and picking dates employed. French oak-matured, 25% new. Stone fruit and melon aromas are accentuated by a touch of oak on the bouquet, the palate showing similar qualities with grapefruit and green apple also in the flavour spectrum. It's got a nicely rounded feel with some crisp acidity to finish."

Rated 4 out of 5 by Graham from Good Adelaide Hills Chardy Bought on special, the 2017 Sidewood Chardonnay was an excellent buy. I'm beginning to appreciate the Adelaide Hills as a great region for chardonnay. Sadly who knows what to expect in the immediate future after the recent bush fires that decimated many wineries and no doubt smoke tainted many others. This one is good but not great. Nevertheless it presents good grape characteristics, enhanced by gentle oak and some bottle aging. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again.

I am a lover of Chardonnay with oak, the more the better for me. But this type of Chardonnay is far and few unless you pay $70 plus dollars. So to find a Chardonnay that is matured in French oak for $11.99, I brought a case. I was so looking forward to taste the wine, sadly it took over a month to arrive, but that's another story!!! I was disappointed as the French oak in my opinion was no ware to be found. To me, its a standard Chardonnay, I'm not a wine buff but the comments on the web site, is far from the actual taste. Will keep the wine for when we have friends and family around.
