Tasting Notes:

Very pale at bottling but with time this wine will pick up green-gold tints/ Wines from this vineyard always have great subtlety and great purity. Lemons and limes, both the fruit and the flowers. Medium bodied and beautifully fine with a perfect balance between acid and sugar. The finish is long and pure.

Technical:

The 2018 Marlborough Riesling is sourced from Grant and Kirsten Coles' vineyard at spring creek. We have been sourcing fruit from this block since 2005 and the wines have won a number of gold medals and trophies. The fruit in 2015 was in superb condition. This year we used just the free run component to craft this wine. It was tank fermented and as usual we used a yeast called SIHA7. This yeast was originally isolated from a a German Riesling ferment and has proven to work wonderfully well under New Zealand conditions. As always, we have left a dash of residual sugar in the wine.

It is brightly fruited and fragrant on the nose showing Gala apple, nectarine, lemon peel and floral characters. The palate is juicy and vibrant, delivering pristine fruit flavours together with whispering sweetness and refreshing acidity, finishing log and very tasty. At its best now to 2022

Tangy riesling in an off-dry style with lime, lemon juice, green apple and subtle floral flavours. Fairly assertive acidity may mellow with a little bottle age but is a little pronounced right now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Norman from Great Riesling!!!! i always love Rieslings with a bit of age on them as they develop nicely The New Zealand ones are no exception and particularly the Gisborne region This wine will live for another couple of years ;but unfortunately I won't be able to leave it that long!!!!! A truly beautiful wine great drinking now or down the track!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Twin Tub from Simple & to the point; rather striking A pale yellow fruit-driven zesty Riesling with some residual sugar making it an off-dry example. Very refreshing and flavoursome on the palate, and best when served well chilled. Recommended.
