Tasting Notes:

The 2013 Leydens Vale Sauvignon Blanc Semillon displays a pale straw colour with hues of green. The noticeably herbal, floral and tropical fruit aromas are the tell tale signs of these varieties. The palate follows on from the aromas with bright gooseberry fruit and herbal nuances from the Sauvignon Blanc (88%) plus the minerality and crisp clean acid finish of the Semillon (12%). Serve chilled and enjoy with seafood or Asian style cuisine.

Technical:

The Leydens Vale series of wines takes their name from John Leyden, one of the original land holders in the Pyrenees region of central / western Victoria in the 1890’s. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are the two famous white grapes of the Bordeaux region in France, and are commonly blended together to produce wines of many different expressions, depending on the region in which they are grown. The cool Pyrenees district of Western Victoria can produce elegant and distinctive wines with these varieties and this is no exception. The 2012 / 2013 growing season was ideal for ripening these varieties due to a cool spring and summer, followed by a warm dry autumn, allowing healthy vine canopy growth, important for development of flavour and shade.
