Tasting Notes:

Totally opaque inky black purple colour with deep dark red purple hue. The nose offers up scents of blackcurrant and dark mulberries followed by some cedar, subtle tobacco leaf and a touch of spice. Full bodied the palate possesses rich ripe blackcurrant and dark chocolate flavours with some underlying cedar and a spicy back palate. The firm solid tannin structure is a necessity to carry the abundance of fruit. Long blackcurrant, dark mulberry, chocolatey cedar and spice aftertaste.

Technical:

Derived from vines planted in 1988 by Hardy’s for their premium wines (including Eileen Hardy varieties). The fruit is whole bunch pressed, with stainless steel fermentation. Matured in 40% new French Oak, with the balance in 2 year old French Oak for 15 months.

Accolades & Awards:

94 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Deep, vivid purple-crimson; the 30-year-old vines are planted on a south-facing (ie cool) slope, and the medium- to full-bodied wine spent 18 months in French oak barriques (80% new). Black and redcurrant fruit dominate proceedings, albeit with the expected contribution of oak tannins. Impressive wine."

90 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front

"Smells and tastes of pure Cabernet Sauvignon. Clearly a good year at Nashwauk for cabernet. Gravel, dust, blackcurrant. It’s an excellent introduction. The palate too is awash with those flavours, before dusty tannin takes things out. Juicy and varietal. A little warm on the finish but nothing too serious. Easy wine to like."

Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deep red/purple colour; youthful. Walnutty aromas from oak are dominant, plus mocha and dark berry jam. The palate is medium to full-bodied and soft with lots of fine powdery tannins that are a trifle dominant. A decent wine with a very drying, but quite smooth finish."
