Tasting Notes:

Excellent colour; includes a touch of petit verdot to what extent this has underwritten the autocratic cabernet imperative of the wine on the bouquet and medium-bodied palate is a moot point; the sooty/savoury overtones to the black fruits work well, for the tannins are not abrasive nor the oak overplayed.

Technical:

Maximus Wines is situated in the heart of McLaren Vale, nestled amongst a vineyard of shiraz grapes and with stunning views to the Willunga Hills. Owned and managed by Rowland and Shelley Short, all winemaking is done in the small winery on site. "Our wine-making philosophy is to embrace traditional techniques and to use technology to assist the process. We process small batches, hand plunge them three times a day, basket press them and use the best oak to enhance them. Our aim is to create Maximus as an iconic McLaren Vale wine label."
