Tasting Notes:

A combination of spice, bright ripe red fruits, black currant and dark cherry notes along with hints of tobacco, liquorice, mocha and cola. Palate: Great flavour integrity from nose to palate. Red-berried fruit, black currant and spice flavours sit above a succulent, dense mouth-feel with fine dusty tannins. Enjoy now and for at least the next 5 years.

Technical:

A blend of five different clones of Tempranillo plus 5% Shiraz (PT15 clone). Cold-soaked for four days which allows a gentle extraction of colour, aroma & flavour to increase quality pre-ferment, the cool temperature preventing the ferment from initiating. Once fermentation was underway, the fruit was hand-plunged in open fermenters. Maceration continued during the 10 to 14 days on skins. softening the tannins. MLF was carried out in barrel creating a smoother, rounder mouthfeel. 15 months maturation followed in a mix of 300L hogsheads & 500L puncheons – no new oak was used. Suitable for vegans

Accolades & Awards:

93 Point Rated - Erin Larkin James Halliday Wine Companion

"Hand-picked with the inclusion of 5% shiraz, 4 days cold soak, open-fermented, 14 days on skins, 15 months in used oak. A complex, medium to full-bodied tempranillo with greater weight and complexity than most, including black and purple fruits."

92 Point Rated - Stuart Knox The Real Review

"Bay leaf, blackcurrants and smoke lift from the glass. Dark berries run the central-palate line, with subtle brushstrokes of bay leaf and rosemary. A deep roast meat note lingers on into the finish. Fine tannin and acid structures give focus to this long, medium-bodied red."

91 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front

"It’s made from four cones of Tempranillo growing on the Forest Grove property. It didn’t see any new oak. It includes a whisker of shiraz.

It’s a drinker. As in, one sip and you just want to settle in and get on with it. It’s medium weight, if anything on the light side of it, with cherry and redcurrant notes floated with cloves, sweet spice and bay. It’s juicy, even-tempered and well-shaped but essentially it’s just super-easy to drink. I wouldn’t keep this; I’d drink it young while the fruit is free."
