Tasting Notes:

Made of 78% Shiraz and 22% Grenache, Glaetzer Wallace Shiraz Grenache flaunts a medium to deep garnet colour when poured into a glass, with a flash of purple clearly visible on the rim. The wine has an enticing nose of dark plum, raspberry and lavender aromas, in addition to subtle hints of anise and ground spice. The palate is filled with flavours of black fruits, with light touches of blackcurrant and pepper. The wine has firm and savoury yet rounded tannins. Enjoy it with beef, pasta, or lamb dishes for an enhanced taste.

Technical:

78% Shiraz (50 -80 years old) and 22% Grenache (50–110 years old) sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub-district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. Yields are 3.5 tonnes per hectare. Above average winter rain followed by warm spring temperatures resulted in healthy vines showing significant early bud growth. Mild temperatures during December and January coupled with good end of January rain set up the vines nicely for the ripening period. Harvest started early on 14 February and was completed on 15 April consistent with the normal finishing time. The resultant 2015 vintage wines have deep, vibrant colours with savoury tannins and rich, seductive flavours. Old-vine Barossa Grenache has a liveliness and structure that does not benefit from oak maturation; oak contact was thus minimised for the Grenache component to preserve the purity of the fruit. The Shiraz was matured for 16 months in 2- to 3-year-old oak hogshead barrels (80% French/20% American)

Accolades & Awards:

92 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"This is a nice drink. Thrills with a chill! I wish I didn't have to write anything more because to do so, chortles on and contradicts the spirit of a wine that is gulpable because-and not despite of-its virtuous simplicity. Sweet berry fruit notes sashay to Turkish delight and kirsch, all licked by briar and a dash of vanillin oak. There is old-turf-vinosity to this, with length and effusive energy."

90 Point Rated - Gary Walsh The Wine Front

"I invariably make some Grommit comment in the introduction, though I’ve done it so often, I should leave it well alone. I’ve been at this lark for too long, probably… Blackberry, raspberry, roast beef, flowers and mint. Medium-bodied, a little earthy, spearmint and chocolate, tart acidity buried in ripe fruit, grainy tannin, decent length. Solid."

Highly Rated - Huon Hook The Real Review

"Smoked meat charcuterie and slight reductive aromas, subdued and funky. The wine is light to medium-weight and finely tuned, with intensity and brightness but not so much richness or volume. Red fruits. Elegant and balanced. Very good value."
