Tasting Notes:

The 2011 Leydens Vale Cabernet Sauvignon wine displays a vibrant ruby red colour plus aromas of red berries, regional mint, forest floor leafy notes and toasty oak. The palate shows the blackberry fruit and fine tannin of good Cabernet Sauvignon and the touches of mint and eucalypt evident are indicative of the Pyrenees. Twelve months maturing in old French oak barrels has softened the plentiful tannins making this wine very approachable in its youth but robust enough to cellar midterm.

Technical:
The noble grape Cabernet Sauvignon is perceived by many as the classic red grape variety because it is rich in attractive berry fruit characters plus medium to full bodied in most situations. The Leydens Vale series of wines takes their name from John Leyden, one of the original land holders in the Pyrenees region of central/western Victoria in the 1890\'s. It could certainly be argued that Cabernet Sauvignon is the signature variety of the Pyrenees region in Western Victoria, even in tough growing seasons like that of 2010/2011. A wet winter and spring were followed by a January flood, but the resilience of Cabernet Sauvignon and a mild autumn still produced good bright varietal flavoured Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
