Redwood Hills Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Our Wairau Bar Home Vineyard is cane pruned on 3 and 4 cane VSP trellising. The rich top soils of the lower Wairau Valley have long been considered the finest agricultural soils in Marlborough. They give us complex flavours and pungent aromatics. Combine this with the influence from Rarangi alluvials deposited by the mighty Wairau River hundreds of years ago, and we present a wine brimming with complexity, personality and expression.
The fruit was harvested in the cool of the morning and transferred to the winery where it underwent temperaturecontrolled fermentation in stainless steel tanks using carefully selected yeast cultures. Post-ferment maturation on fine lees gives the wine a refined texture to compliment the exuberant aromatics.
The 2015/2016 growing season was warm and dry. A couple of heavy, but isolated, rain events in January and March provided some drought relief and kept canopies healthy and green. There was very little disease pressure leading into harvest, so we were able to pick blocks purely on flavour and ripeness. The resulting wine is an aromatic and generous expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
Goose Valley Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Each individual block in our Goose Valley vineyard is carefully monitored for optimum sugar and acid levels, with a dedicated harvesting crew on hand ready to pick when these levels are meet. Once at the winery the grapes are pressed into stainless steel tanks for cold settling, before being gently racked and inoculated with select yeasts chosen to naturally enhance the aromatic and avour pro les of the wine. Fermentation is carried out at cool temperatures allowing the wine to retain its aromas; with each batch fermentation typically lasting around 21 days. After fermentation is complete the wines are left to settle on their yeast lees for a short period before being racked again into stainless steel tanks for maturation. Once blended the resulting wine is stabilised and altered ñ without the need for fining, and bottled in mid-July to capture freshness in the bottle.
Make to drink upon release while the fruit flavour is at its most fresh and vibrant although will develop more complexity over the short term.
New Zealand Pinot Gris 2016 Cleanskin
“New Zealand’s cooler, maritime climate engenders numerous more phenolic, Alsatian-inspired, waxy textured (Pinot Gris) wines imbued with great complexity and nuance”
