This pure and powerful wine has lifted passionfruit, grapefruit and gooseberry aromas. On the palate there is plenty of zest with herbaceous crushed herb and nettle flavours combining wonderfully with layers of fresh lime and stone fruits. This is a classic Upper Awatere wine with a chalky mineral character and racy acidity that helps give this wine extraordinary length and class.
The 2014 season was a challenging one. After an early start, above normal crops and below normal temperatures over the ripening period resulted in delayed ripening across Marlborough. However, after some careful crop reduction, we were able to harvest fruit full in flavour and intensity that we look for every year. Each block in the vineyard was managed differently to create different flavours at harvest. These blocks were also fermented separately in the winery with different yeasts to complement their varying personalities. Once each batch had finished fermenting, they were blended back together to create a wine of perfect balance with typical Upper Awatere character.

One of the most impressive sauvignons from the vintage, it's fabulously aromatic on the nose showing white peach, grapefruit, dill and lime zest notes, leading to a powerful palate that's juicy and mouth-wateringly tasty. The wine offers plenty of attractive flavours.
4 Stars Raymond Chan
Brilliant pale straw colour with slight green hues, lighter on edge. The nose is elegant and refined with intense, tightly bound aromas of pungent passionfruit and nuances of tropical fruits, revealing classical Awatere grassy and nettle notes with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, this has a good core of passionfruit flavours entwined with piquant herb and grassy nuances, the fruit showing sweetness, enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. The mouthfeel is lively and vibrant and the phenolic handling is fine, allowing the juiciness to feature. The wine carries to an elegant and slender, moderately concentrated finish. This is a bright, lusciously juicy, passionfruity Sauvignon Blanc with some elegance. Serve with salads and vegetables, and Asian cuisine over the next 2 years.
4 Stars & 90 Points Bob Campbell
Quite a Sancerre-like Sauvignon Blanc with stony mineral, gooseberry, green capsicum and nettle flavours. Good concentration and purity with impressive underlying power.
Huon Hooke
"Very light hue and a very pungent thiol-driven aroma, passionfruity and thinly cosmetic. One gets the feeling there is little of substance behind the estery aromatics. The palate is dried off by phenolics on the finish. A decent drink while young."
