Tasting Notes:

Marsanne of lifted and intense lemon citrus, spice and pear fruits with a zesty minerality and cleansing acidity. Time in the cellar will undoubtedly bring on a toasty, honeysuckle and orange marmalade richness and complexity.

Technical:

The season started off slowly, summer was cool and the rainfall was low in the lead up. A windy spring certainly disrupted the fruit set, leading to fewer berries per bunch with final yields well down, with some of our blocks by as much as 40%. The harvest itself ticked along at a steady pace, whites progressed nicely, the reds ripening well and then everything ripened up at once with lots of juggling between whites, rose and red ferments.

This is a reserved release and that, you’d have to argue, is a good thing. It has all the right components but it needs time for it to flesh out. Blossomy citrus and slate characters come with whispers of fennel and musk. The mouthfeel, dry riverstone-like, is very good, as is the general flow of it. At this early stage this looks to be in a very good/excellent place.

Pale, almost water-clear colour; vegetal and faintly honeyed aromas with a little free SO2 and slight smoky reduction. A touch of florals emerged in the glass later. The wine is delicate, light-bodied, shy and reserved. It's a very young wine that is still somewhat in its shell. There is good intensity of flavour, but it would repay a little time in bottle to settle.
