Tasting Notes:

The Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is a crisp and vibrant expression of the renowned Marlborough region, crafted from fruit sourced across its expansive winegrowing areas. This includes grapes from the company’s Woolshed Vineyard in the upper Wairau Valley, along with fruit from long-established growers in the Awatere and Wairau Valleys. These vineyards are planted on moderately fertile glacial soils, including a mix of sandy loam over deep gravels, fertile loams, and clays, all contributing to the wine’s exceptional quality.

The winemaking process prioritizes the preservation of freshness and aromatic integrity, ensuring that oxidation is avoided every step of the way—from harvest to bottling. Each vineyard batch is kept separate throughout fermentation, allowing for the best characteristics of each to shine before the final blending. The wine undergoes fining and filtering before being bottled to maintain its vibrant profile.

The 2024 vintage benefitted from ideal growing conditions, with warm temperatures providing perfect conditions for flowering and fruit set. This was followed by settled weather, allowing the fruit to ripen optimally. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc with great flavour and freshness, reflecting the region’s distinctive character.

In the glass, this Sauvignon Blanc shows a pale straw color, with fresh aromas of snow pea, nettles, and tropical guava. The palate is bright and lively, featuring notes of melon and citrus, while the crisp grapefruit-like acidity lingers, adding texture and balance to the wine’s finish. It’s a beautifully refreshing wine, perfect for enjoying now.

Pair this zesty Sauvignon Blanc with fresh seafood, goat cheese salads, or grilled vegetables. Its bright acidity and tropical fruit notes also make it an excellent companion for sushi or Thai-inspired dishes.
