The Eileen Hardy Tasmania Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2022 is a wine that exemplifies the commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and the essence of cool-climate Australian viticulture. A masterful blend from two of Australia's most prestigious regions—Tasmania and the Adelaide Hills—this Chardonnay is designed to capture the purest expression of vineyard fruit.
The 2022 vintage faced challenges due to unpredictable weather conditions, with a long, wet winter and slow ripening season. However, the high-quality fruit sourced from Derwent and Coal River Valleys was a testament to the dedication of Hardy’s growers. Despite a challenging harvest, the result is a wine of incredible complexity, rich structure, and a beautiful balance of ripe fruit and acidity.
The wine opens with a striking bouquet of lemon curd, ripe stone fruits, and a delicate hint of struck match, all interwoven with subtle toasty oak. The palate is rich and flavoursome, offering fresh white peaches and zesty lemon upfront, followed by a seductive mineral drive that lends the wine both length and complexity. The creamy texture from the toasty oak adds depth and enhances the overall richness. It pairs beautifully with rich seafood dishes like grilled lobster or roast chicken, where its vibrant acidity and complex texture elevate the flavors of the meal. A 96-point rating from Dave Brookes in James Halliday Wine Companion confirms its excellence. This Chardonnay is not only a delightful experience now but will continue to evolve beautifully with time.

"I've long loved the Eileen Hardy Chardonnay. I'm sitting here tasting it in January 2024, cursing my alcohol-free start to the year as this would disappear quicksmart otherwise. There is just something about this wine that ticks all the boxes for me. There is concentration yet focus and drive, with pristine white peach, nectarine and lemon at the core, around which flutters notes of struck match, soft spice, nougat, white flowers, lemon-lime zest and toasty oak. Long, stony and rich, with a finish that fades slowly with flavours of stone fruit, spice, vanillin oak, flint and meal. Superb."
