Light straw with green hues. Complex with overt aromas of passionfruit, pink grapefruit, citrus and greener components of crushed herb, capsicum and gooseberries. Fantastic fruit weight and intensity of flavour is matched with mouth-watering acidity.
The Buchanan family have grown their Mount Riley wine growing business enormously. The wine portfolio covers a diverse range of varietals that are proven performers in Marlborough, but also includes some that are more interesting and possibly challenging. There are also a number of alternative styles and limited bottlings of quite individual wines, and tiers leading up to the flagship ‘Seventeen Valley’ range. However, there’s no taking away from the core of the operation, and that’s high quality, classical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that offers great value.
A warm early growing season with fantastic bud burst and flowering conditions resulted in generous crops which were heavily thinned in order to create Mount Riley’s classic and highly regarded Estate Sauvignon Blanc.
Our 2014 Sauvignon Blanc is a blend from multiple vineyard sites throughout Marlborough, with 30% from the Awatere Valley and the balance from the Wairau Valley. Grapes were crushed and destemmed prior to pressing and fermentation was induced by the introduction of carefully selected yeast strains. We fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve the lifted aromatics in this wine.
Fruit from multiple vineyard sites, 70% from the Wairau and 30% from the Awatere Valleys

It's lively, fragrant and immediately appealing on the nose displaying feijoa, peach, lime zest and dill characters, leading to a concentrated palate that's juicy and intense. The wine shows plenty of power and loads of succulent flavours.

Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues on rim. The nose is gently full and voluminous with up-front aromas of gooseberries, passionfruit and nettles and minerals harmoniously melded together and lifted by subtle fermentation esters elements. Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, the palate features softly drying, fine-grained textures carrying well-integrated fruit flavours of gooseberries, passionfruit, cut grass and minerals. The acidity is balanced and provides an underlying freshness. The wine flows smoothly and seamlessly, leading to a light, restrained, moderately sustained finish with soft, dry textures. This is a harmonious, and soft, gently textured dry Sauvignon Blanc with passionfruit, nettly and minerally flavours.
