Fresh ripe citrus, honeysuckle and melon with notes of blackcurrant leaf. Enticing citrus flavours with crisp and delicate acidity.
Produced from grapes grown at Strathlynn on the west bank of the Tamar River, 70km from Pipers Brook. In contrast to our sites in the northeast, which are close to Bass Strait and subject to strong maritime influences, the Tamar Valley’s hillside slopes offer vines some protection from prevailing westerly winds. This promotes warm, settled conditions for much of the growing season. The West Tamar has surprisingly low rainfall. Sites in the Tamar Valley are a mixture of brown Chromosol and Vertosol (black cracking clay) soils. Both soil types have excellent water holding capacity, offering a steady supply of moisture and nourishment to the vines throughout the growing season. Vines are grown predominantly on cane-pruned, Vertical Shoot Positioned (VSP) trellises, which help to expose bunches to the sun. Vines averaging 20 years of age give an abundance of concentrated fruit character. Selective leafplucking helps achieve full ripeness with well-balanced, fleshy flavours.
Cold harvested at night. Carefully de-stemmed and crushed using fully protective handling to avoid juice oxidation. This preserves naturally vibrant tropical aromas and flavours. Juice brightly clarified and fermented very slowly at very cool temperatures in stainless steel vats. Bottled early under screw cap to preserve intensely perfumed aromas and fresh tropical fruit, showing crisp balanced acidity.

Fermented and aged 8 months on lees in French oak barriques, partial mlf. Old-vine fruit depth, cool season tension and masterfully deployed woodwork unite in a sophisticated sauvignon engineered for the cellar. Characteristic gooseberry, lantana and passionfruit are here in full measure, nicely contrasting the hazelnut cream of French oak barrels, but it's the racy lemon-and-lime-juice spine and the way it tussles with creamy barrel ferment texture that really delivers excitement here. Do not underestimate its longevity, and do not dare open a bottle for at least 5 years, preferably 10.

A pale and bright lemon hue. Lemon balm and capsicum aromatics. Bright and racy, lemon juice fruit with a green grass and green capsicum element to it. The acidity is borderline shrill but works in the context of this wine's framework and drives it very long. Good to see it not tricked up with residual sugar—would sing with oysters.
