Tasting Notes:

Deep ruby purple with hints of crimson, this wine displays lifted aromas of blackberries and plums with suggestions of cedar and violets. The palate is elegantly structured with layers of red berry fruits, anise and fruit pastille. Shiraz adds a silky texture and sweetness to the mid palate, whilst the Cabernet provides structure and a soft tannin finish. Synergy and elegance.

Technical:

Cabernet Sauvignon is the original and oldest planting at Oxford Landing with some vines in excess of 40 years old. These vines are believed to be some of the first planted in the region. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz is the definitive Australian wine blend. No other wine style is considered to be as uniquely and unashamedly Australian.

Some of Australia's most legendary wines have been made in this style. The ripe soft flavours and textures of Shiraz marry perfectly with the elegance and power of Cabernet Sauvignon. Good rainfall in spring, coupled with a relatively mild summer, gave the grapes a chance to ripen slowly. Fermentation was carried out in static and rotary fermenters under warm conditions for six days, creating a good balance between appropriate tannin extraction and retention of fruit drive and aromatics.

James Halliday
(Weekend Australian Magazine's Top 100 Wines 19 November 2011).
"Custom-made and branded bottles were introduced for this vintage from South Australia, and draw the eye and the hand to the retail shelf. Ludicrously good value. Black and redcurrant fruits leads the way, and brings up the rear. This is all about fruit flavour, not tannins, not oak, nor artifice, yet works brilliantly. Drink to 2014 with braised lamb shanks."

Tony Keys
(The Key Review of Wines - July 2011).
"Very decent glass of red wine well balanced and gives more than one has to pay for it 89 points."

Winsor Dobbin
(The Sunday Examiner (AUS), 29 May 2011).
"THE Oxford Landing range has been rebranded, but remains great value for money. Made from fruit grown in the warm Riverland region of South Australia, this is an excellent everyday drinking wine with tons of bright, ripe berry flavours. The alcohol is relatively low at 13 per cent and there is certainly no shortage of flavour. For those who worry about such things, this is also vegetarian and vegan-friendly. More importantly it is very decent drink."

Chris Shanahan
(chrisshanahan.com AUGUST 2012)
"This is all you could ask for at the price – clean, fresh, deliciously fruity and clearly made from cabernet, fleshed out with a touch of shiraz."
