Tasting Notes:

The nose is lifted berry fruits, with hints of dark chocolate and spice. The palate is me-dium bodied with intense plummy fruit. This plummy fruit fills the whole palate and combined with the soft and approachable tannins creates a very mouth filling wine. The length of flavour is long with plumy and liquorice fruit and spicy oak.

Technical:

Several warmer weeks in January and February ensured the reds developed excellent colour and fruit character whilst maintaining good acid structure and overall balance. Vintage 2012 was a ‘light’ year with yields of both reds and whites 20-30% below what would normally be expected. The grapes are crushed and de-stemmed into fermenters. Yeast is added immediately once in fermenter and the ferments are pumped over twice daily to maximise colour, tannin and flavour extraction. Cooling is used to ensure ferment temperatures remain in the 22-25 degree celcius range which will allow the fruit to display maximum fruit expression. Pressing then occurs approximately seven days after crushing and the wine is then put into predominately American oak to mature.

I was wrong. Two Jokers is a worthwhile drop with some character at a very reasonable price No joke... Friends, family and I have worked our way through half a box in no time. Very good drinking with dinner.

(Alright, I confess to the pun here) The Thorn Clarke Two Jokers Shiraz is a warm, generous shiraz with hints of chocolate, allspice and fruitcake. Drinking well now it will reward the wise and thrifty with a few more years in the cellar.

It is a very drinkable wine and maybe it was one to be quaffed rather than kept for a few years. I found there wasn't much fruit there and it is just a little flat. It is the wine I pull out on a week night and we only want a couple of glasses. 2 glasses is enough. We alternate between this Shiraz and another one and 2 jokers comes off 2nd best.
