Tasting Notes:

Black centre with opaque purple edge. A highly concentrated and complex Shiraz with great natural fruit presence showing blackberry, mulberry, dark chocolate, plums, olives, earth and a touch of French oak. A full rich palate follows with concentrated flavours of super ripe blackberry, spicy plum, dark chocolate, and mocha as well as an enticingly brilliant flavour of well-integrated oak. The juicy, dark, rounded tannins have a wonderful length and line, which ensures the wine, lingers for an extended period leaving you with such a moreish quality.

Technical:

Mungo Park is a single vineyard wine sourced from the famed sub region – the Moppa and near the Kalimna Vineyard, which is the mother vineyard of “Grange”. The vines themselves are up to 80-year-old and they are cropped, using green harvesting, at less than 3.5 tonne to the acre. Grapes were hand picked at dawn, it receives fermentation, like our top wines, Exile and Émigré, which is conducted in small open top fermenters, followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing in 100 per cent new French oak barrels.

I usually cellar all my reds for 5-10 years (sometimes longer), and whilst these babies will undoubtedly improve over that time, if you want to drink them now, you can, and you will enjoy them! We also give them to our very, very grateful Clients!

Rated 4 out of 5 by oonie from Great wine I had 2010 Mungo Park and had been on a lookout for later releases. The lastest 2012 vintage has a dark maroon colour. The nose displays plum, blackberry and hint of chocolate. Rich, sticky, full bodied with the flavours of plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, some leather and spice with a medium to long finish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Stormy from A good simple shiraz Have been buying Exile for a while - this is a slightly cheaper version sub $20 which nevertheless has the hallmarks of a good Barossa Shiraz, that I bought in April 2015. Each bottle tastes better with age.
