As black as the ace of spades with intermediate flashes of purple. Like a box of chocolates this wine continues to surprise yet give exactly what you have come to expect. Decant and allow to breathe then you will enter into a world of dark olive, blackberry, dark chocolate and a wonderful hint of licorice as well as a soft impression of new finely grained oak. Soft and smooth is the first impression given then the fruit explosion shows serious depth and concentration. Again allow this wine to breathe to ensure you see its full beauty; blackberry, black currant, licorice, olives some plums and an impressive finely grained tannin structure which appears to run through the wine with the same perseverance as the oak without ever becoming the over riding feature yet prevalent at the same time. This wine will continue to evolve and change without question with time in bottle and will improve further.
The home of Exile is an old vineyard in Marananga, which is dry grown although a small amount of fruit comes from a small old block in Eden Valley. The vines that make up Exile are pruned severely and receive two runs of green harvesting finally producing just one tonne to the acre. Exile grapes are all hand picked and the grapes are selected in individual batches by winemaker and vigneron. The grapes are transported to the winery and the wine is fermented in small open top fermenters after extreme cold maceration. The wines have their malolactic in new French oak, and are then aged for 24 months before final barrel selection, blending and bottling with minimal filtration.
