Light rose red with a slight clear hue. Beautifully lifted and perfumed showing spice and sweet reds fruits. The palate is balanced and well integrated with the fine tannins, savoury whole bunch characters and juicy fruits. A supple and delicious Pinot that has great acidity, length and fineness.

Technical:

The 2018 growing season was divided into two halves. Winter and Spring was cool with good rain fall and moister in the soils. Vine growth took advantage of these conditions and we achieved great canopies with higher than average crop levels heading into summer. Some high humidity days over the Christmas period meant we needed to be in high alert from the elevated disease pressure. Luckily, Summer turned a corner and we experienced above average temperatures and below average rain fall. This continued through mid-January and February, prompted all varieties to ripen together and quickly. As a result, we experienced a compressed vintage with little time between the early varieties (Chardonnay & Pinot) and the later varieties (Riesling, Shiraz & Cabernet).

Fruit is hand handpicked and sorted in the vineyard. A combination of de-stemmed ferments and 100% whole bunch ferments are used. Must is cold soaked for 4 days then natural fermentation occurs with no temperature control. Malolactic fermentation occurs during primary. Open ferments are pumped over daily. Wine is gently pressed off skins and run straight to French oak for barrel maturation on lees in 30% new oak (300 & 500 litre) barrels. Wine is not filtered or finned but allowed to clarify naturally in the cellar prior to bottling. This minimal handling is done to maximize delicate “Pinot character” flavours.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"The vivid crimson hue has the clarity the best pinot noir winemakers achieve. It's all about appearing to keep your hands off - you have to meet pinot on the terms it dictates, and understand the vinous alchemy at work. The length of this wine will hit you the moment you wonder whether it's not coming. But it's then relentless, with aromas and flavours of wild strawberries, cherries (red and black), and pomegranate."

93 Point Rated - Gary Walsh The Wine Front

"Red fruits, almond biscuits, slight floral top note, gentle spicy oak. a little smoky reduction and bunchy greenery. Light to medium-bodied, delicate and charming, and while it’s not the most complex of wines (as yet), does beguile and dance lightly, drinks well, and finishes sure-footed and long. In amongst all that, the acidity feels clean and pure, and the tannin is light with a gentle emery feel. Charming."

91 Point Rated - Huon Hook The Real Review

"Youthful medium red/purple colour with a spicy, smoky and red cherry-scented bouquet that is youthful and primary. It's light to medium-bodied and fruit-driven, with easy-drinking simplicity and moderate length. Very attractive in its class."
