The perfumed and complex bouquet shows earthy dark cherry, plum, game and subtle vanillin oak characters. It's concentrated and rounded on the palate with excellent mid palate weight and rich texture. The wine shows lovely density and flows seamlessly to an impressively long, supple finish.
Our aim is best summed up by ‘fine wine begins with the vine’. Our approach is through organic viticulture where we strive for balance in the vineyard. This ultimately provides grapes that are a reflection of our particular site. The grapes were hand harvested, 90% destemmed and cold soaked in open top fermenters for a week prior to fermentation with the indigenous yeast. After fermentation the wines were transferred to a mixture of new and seasoned French oak for malolactic fermentation, and maturation on full lees for 12 months, before blending and egg white fining. The vineyard is situated in the historic region of Bendigo not far from the gold mines of yesteryear. Planted on colluvium fans the vineyard is named after an old trig station on a hilltop in the middle of the site.
94 Points & 5 Stars Wine Orbit
"From the Bendigo district in Central Otago, this stylish pinot is filled with dark cherry, plum, clove and floral characters with nuances of game and cedar on the nose. The palate exhibits excellent concentration and weight, wonderfully supported by velvety texture and supple tannins. The wine is superbly fruited and generous, yet refined and poised, and offers layers of rich texture and delectable flavours."
Highly Rated Huon Hooke
Deep red colour with the last vestiges of purple in the rim; the aromas are oaky, and show some forward-development. The palate is full and grippy, with amplitude and tannin - which is a mite bitter - but it lacks clarity and definition. The finish is very chewy.
