The maturity of the vines and evenness of crop ensured the varietal flavours of Rhubarb, cherry, raspberry and vanilla sponge cake are concentrated even with the naturally medium body of the wine. Ferment is long and cool which supports the framework and flavours set up by the vineyard. The wine then goes to large oak, older barrels for maturation for 6 months only. The La Bise style is about “fruit first” to present a Tempranillo that is juicy and full of red fruits.
La Bise is French for the kiss. We search the Adelaide Hills vineyards for quality fruit to produce the wines that are “true” to that vineyard and express the flavours of the grapes. We often find vineyards in need of love and attention and by rejuvenating these vineyards we give them “the kiss of life”. The La Bise Tempranillo is sourced from a single vineyard in the Kersbrook region of the Adelaide Hills. Many great wines have been made from this vineyard (now ten years old) and the 2014 is the second Tempranillo to feature in the top 5 Tempranillo’s of Australia in Wine Selector’s magazine ‘State of Play’ competition.

90 Points James Halliday Wine Companion
Decidedly savoury nooks and crannies, and a good call of bruised tomato leaf aroma from Natasha Mooney. Barely medium-bodied, it looks as if it will develop earlier than some other tempranillos.
With the 90 Points from James Halliday, the La Bise Adelaide Hills Tempranillo 2014 outpointed the following;
Tokar Estate The Aria Tempranillo Cabernet sauvignon 2005 (87 Pts. J.H & $95)
Penfolds Cellar Reserve McLaren Vale Tempranillo 2013 (89 Pts. J.H & $85)
Hewitson Private Cellar Basham’s Beach Tempranillo 2006 (89 Pts. J.H & $69)
Pindarie Black Hinge Reserve Barossa Valley Tempranillo 2008 (86 Pts. J.H & $55)
