Tasting Notes:

A brilliant, vibrant, strawberry red, the wine displays lively aromatic strawberry, beetroot and black cherry notes, with hints of cardamon and star anise, with the subtle influence of French Oak spice adding further complexity.

The palate is juicy and sweet fruited, full of ripe berry fruits, cherries and fine tannins. Subtle use of oak combines with a mineral acid drive to provide a palate of balance, texture and great length.

Technical:

An excellent lead-up to harvest saw moderate yields and good berry size with cooler conditions for most of the growing season. A vintage without extremes of heat and later ripening than recent vintages saw fruit ripen slowly and steadily. Picked at optimum maturity then made in a way that combines old and new world techniques.

The first release of the Houghton Wisdom Pinot Noir showcases the great 2018 vintage in Pemberton. A wine of delicacy and finesse with aromatic spice, providing texture and complexity. The handpicked fruit was carefully sorted and fermented in small open top fermenters keeping each clonal batch separate. Twenty five percent whole bunches were used in the ferments and natural yeasts were promoted. Each parcel was pressed into 40% new French oak and following
