Incredibly deep red, almost black in colour, this wine shows all the usual blackberry, star anise and ferrous characters that we have come to expect from this site. Rich and ripe on the palate, it displays plenty of texture and length driven by the robust natural tannins present. Excellent cellaring potential.
The fruit for this comes from the two oldest blocks of Shiraz on the vineyard. Varying percentages of both blocks make up the Premium depending on the year.
95 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"A powerful and rich wine that has found some McLaren Vale chocolate buried in the soil and used it to good effect, bringing a complex suite of flavours and extra length to the palate. A very well composed wine with an unexpected lightness of foot on the palate."
93 Point Rated - Campbell Mattison
"Folds of plum and cedar-cream. Suede-like. It rolls through the mouth like mist across a valley. Gentle summer-morning warmth, some gum leaf, a coffee-ground character. Both smooth and assured from start to finish. A most pleasing red, in the bigger style."
92 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Very deep, dark, bold red colour with a good tint of purple, and a bouquet that is fairly oak-driven. Vanilla, chocolate, coconut and toasty sawn-timber notes. The palate is likewise terrifically oaky, astringent and powerful. There are blackberry nuances that come through with extended airing. It needs hearty food, and preferably more age. There's no denying its depth or concentration, though. A whopper."
90 Point Rated - Toni Patterson The Real Review
"A full-bodied shiraz with rich, bright raspberry fruit and warming alcohol. The oak intensifies the fruit sweetness and adds nuances of vanilla and spice. A big wine of traditional proportions, with good generosity and vibrant, rich fruit"
