Tasting Notes:

The FU Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022 arrives from what is already being hailed as one of the greatest Barossa vintages in recent memory, with low yields and near-perfect ripening conditions delivering astonishing fruit concentration and natural balance. In the glass, it sits almost opaque, a deep black core edged with crimson hues, signalling the bold, hedonistic style for which FU has become famous.

The nose unfurls slowly, revealing waves of blackberry and plum liqueur lifted by white pepper spice before darker layers of leather saddle, roasted coffee, smoked meat and dark chocolate emerge, hinting at early secondary complexity. The palate is powerful yet meticulously composed, driven by old-vine Shiraz fruit that creates immense richness without sacrificing harmony. Luxurious fruit weight is wrapped in velvety tannins and seamlessly integrated oak, the minimal sulphur regime allowing the fruit purity to shine while maintaining structural integrity. As the wine stretches out, flavours of blackberry compote, cocoa, espresso, earth and subtle savoury undertones coat the palate, supported by a long, persistent finish that lingers with authority.

This is a serious Barossa Shiraz built for impact now yet equally designed for long-term cellaring, with its depth, polish and power offering a drinking experience that reflects why FU Shiraz has earned such consistent critical acclaim over the years. Enjoy it with slow-cooked beef ribs, chargrilled steak, peppered venison, or a rich mushroom ragù — dishes that complement its intensity and luxurious texture — and expect this benchmark 2022 vintage to evolve beautifully for well over a decade.
