Grown along the sun-drenched Adriatic slopes of Abruzzo near the historic towns of Ortona, San Salvo, and Pollutri, Farnese Fantini Montepulciano D’Abruzzo 2021 is a striking expression of one of Italy’s most beloved red varietals. Cultivated on a mix of clay and limestone soils using Guyot and Pergola trellising systems, the grapes are hand-selected and vinified to preserve their purity and depth. Following a cold maceration and fermentation in stainless steel at 24–26°C for 8–10 days, the wine is bottled without oak influence, capturing all the vibrant, fruit-driven character Montepulciano is known for.
In the glass, it gleams with ruby red intensity and garnet edges. The nose is rich and persistent, bursting with ripe marasca cherries, red fruits, plums, and subtle touches of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied with firm, well-integrated tannins, offering balance and length that make it immediately appealing and versatile at the table.
This approachable and expressive Italian red is perfect alongside mushroom risotto, meat-laden pizzas, or grilled sausages with fennel. Its structure and acidity also shine when paired with slow-cooked tomato-based pasta dishes.
Backed by international acclaim, the previous vintage was a multi-award winning Italian red and took home an international gold medal, continuing the winery's proud tradition of excellence. Farnese was also named “Best Producer of Italy” by Luca Maroni in 2016, 2017, and 2019, a testament to their unwavering commitment to quality.
The vineyards are situated around the towns of Ortona, San Salvo and Pollutri on the Adriatic coast of the Abruzzo region. Facing south east, vines are planted on a mix of clay and limestone soils and are trained on both Guyot and Pergola systems. Once the grapes were received at the winery, they were gently crushed and destemmed. The grapes then underwent a cold maceration for four days. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 24-26°C for 8-10 days. This wine received no oak ageing to preserve the vibrancy of the fruit.
