Medium red / garnet colour. Bright, detailed, perfumed aromas of graphite, mineral and spice. Fine, plump palate of pepper, spice and smokey, textural, grainy tannins.

Technical:

Nebbiolo makes the most magnificent wines, complex and engaging, bold of tannin, effusive and eloquent, full of charm. De Bortoli have established a closely husbanded parcel of vine on a section of Dixons Creek vineyard, which emulates the fortuitous confluence of microclimes of Nebbiolo's spiritual home in Piedmont. Grapes are all hand picked and sorted into small open fermenters for three weeks of maceration, followed by fourteen months in 500 litres French oak butts. Brightly lit with graphite, mineral and spice, textural tannins in support of its plump, savoury fruits palate.

Accolades & Awards:

94 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine companion

"Two clones planted in '05 and '06. An impressive example of the vision of Steve Webber. This is swollen with potential as the vines become fully mature, however delicious it is now. Perfect colour, a perfumed rose petal and cherry blossom bouquet, then a juicy palate of red and black cherries, the tannins evident, of course, but refusing to grip no matter how long you hold the wine in your mouth."

92 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front

"This tastes of pure asphalt, dry liquorice, nuts and tobacco. There are signs of sweet cranberried fruit, but they’re more recommended than law, like the yellow speed signs at corners. It’s so dry with (rusty, ferrous) tannin it will (almost literally) soak up food, like blotting paper. It most certainly needs time, but it could well turn out terrific."
