Tasting Notes:

Château Mouton Rothschild 2010 is a quintessential Bordeaux First Growth, embodying the estate’s extraordinary reputation and its place among the greatest wines of the world. Since its elevation to the First Growth status in 1973, Mouton Rothschild has consistently produced wines of remarkable elegance, depth, and complexity. The 2010 vintage, made up of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot, showcases the phenomenal quality of this harvest, offering a wine that will reward collectors and connoisseurs alike for decades to come.

The wine presents an intense, dark red color, and its nose is a symphony of aromas. From the first pour, the lightly toasted vanilla notes are immediately evident, evolving into the rich, fruit-forward aromas of black currant and black cherry. As the wine opens up, the complexity deepens, revealing a luxurious mouthfeel that is the hallmark of great Mouton wines. The attack is powerful and bold, with well-integrated tannins that provide exceptional depth and roundness. The finish is fresh and mineral, adding to the wine’s elegance and refinement.

Rated 100 points by James Suckling, Jane Anson of Decanter, and Ian D’Agata of Decanter, and receiving 99 points from Robert Parker and 98 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW of Wine Advocate, this wine is a true masterpiece. It is a must-have for collectors, offering the potential to evolve gracefully for 60 years or more.

Pair this exceptional wine with dishes like roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or a decadent duck confit. Its power and complexity also make it an ideal match for aged cheeses like Comté or blue cheese.

Accolades & Awards:

100 Point Rated - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

"This is pure Cabernet Sauvignon magic with incredible aromas of currants, blackberries and light spices. Tiny hints of hazelnut. Wet earth. Full body, with super velvety tannins. The purity of fruit is breathtaking. It goes on for minutes. This is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot. Try after 2020."

100 Point Rated - Ian D'agata Decanter

"A legendary wine, probably one of the best ever. Balance, power, silk. If you and your friends were to splurge on just one wine in your life, this would be a fine choice."

100 Point Rated - Jane Anson Decanter

"Smoked grilled tar on the nose, it feels both very 2010 and supremely Mouton - accomplished and confident. A more glamorous, enticing edge than the other Pauillac Firsts at this 10 year window. There are plentiful tannins but they are lined with air, and the overall feel is of plush, plumped fruits, like being rolled-up in luxurious sheets. It is very different in character to the other two Pauillac Firsts, but no less enjoyable. It feels higher in alcohol, more Cos than Lafite in terms of personality, in the way that Pichon Baron is more Latour than Comtesse, but it is nuanced and clever and surprising."

99 Point Rated - Robert Parker

"Tasted at the Mouton-Rothschild vertical in London, the 2010 Mouton-Rothschild is a modern-day benchmark for the First Growth and here, side-by-side with the 2009, it certainly has its nose in front. It is in possession of quite breathtaking delineation and precision, a crystalline bouquet with black fruit laced with minerals, potent pencil shaving notes, a touch of cold slate. It is totally entrancing. The palate has beguiling symmetry, but for me what really distinguishes this Mouton is its effortlessness. Like watching Usain Bolt in his prime sprinting to another world record, this wine is almost self-effacing in terms of its brilliance. Will Philippe Dhalluin ever better this Mouton-Rothschild? Keep it in the cellar for 15 years, if you know what's good for you."

98 Point Rated - Lisa Perrotti-Brown Mw Wine Advocate

"Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Mouton Rothschild is a little closed to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal notes of baked black cherries, crème de cassis, blackberry compote and bouquet garni with suggestions of sweaty leather, pencil lead, cedar chest and black truffles plus a hint of crushed rocks. Full-bodied, the palate is solidly constructed of super firm, ripe, grainy tannins and lively acidity, framing the densely packed black fruit, finishing on a persistent mineral note. Drink Date 2023 - 2060."

98 Point Rated - Ian D'Agata Decanter

"At 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and only 6% Merlot (Mouton's famed gravel soils are not the friendliest of media to Merlot in hot years) a deep, refined but powerful Mouton, verging on the austere currently. Pure raspberry and blackcurrant on the nose and palate, complicated by oriental spices all supported by polished if youthfully chewy tannins. Tasted at the Decanter Fine Wine Encounter Shanghai, November 2015."
