Tasting Notes:

A dark ruby colour fading to brick red at the edges. The nose has spicy notes of leather and vanilla. Similar complexity on the palate with intense flavours of fruit compote and liquorice leading to a long velvety finish.

Technical:

This excellent wine embodies everything that the connoisseur of traditional, classic Spanish wines loves. Anciano is from the cellars of Bodegas Navalón in the small DO Valdepeñas, located in the heart of Spain. Bodegas Navalón has been the passion of the same local family for several generations.

The stony vineyards of Valdepeñas are found in the centre of Spain, where the continental climate is suited to producing intensely fruity, long-lasting red wines. The grapes were hand-harvested from 30-year-old vines planted on clayey lime soils. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks before the ageing process began in a combination of American, French and Hungarian oak casks with different toasting levels, achieving the complex bouquet and flavours of this exceptional wine. This wine was oak aged for a minimum of 24 months.

It's suitable for lunch and dinner and we prefer it slightly cooled to 12 degrees cent. It represents good value for such a quality wine.

I definitely wouldn't put it down as I think it is definitely at it's zenith now with some interesting secondary flavours adding a pleasant savouriness which I find lacking in many Oz wines at this price.

I was introduced to it by a fellow wine lover and so I want to pay it forward. Well balanced, subtle fruit and good length. Great with a meat/pasta dinner or on its own.

Its difficult to obtain an OBJECTIVE review of products from GWD, and as a result I suggest that people buy 2 bottles of 6 potential untested wines to sample where possible, before committing to carton orders, or you are likely to be disappointed if relying upon the advertising propaganda.

Buy the 7 year old it smashes it in all ways softer smoother richer still has primary fruit sure the 10 year old wont get left at the table but its a bit old and getting boring the seven year old is perfect and will get scoffed by all your guests.

It looks great, beautiful bottle, but then it disappoints, unfortunately.
