The 98 Point Iconic Marananga Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022 is sourced from vines planted more than 30 years ago, propagated from cuttings taken from some of the oldest vines on the vineyard. This heritage DNA, combined with Marananga’s renowned red-brown soils, produces fruit of depth, structure and unmistakable Barossa intensity.
Matured for 18 months in seasoned oak barrels, the wine retains purity and power while allowing the vineyard character to shine. The oak is supportive rather than dominant, giving polish and length without masking the fruit’s authority.
In the glass, it pours an opaque maroon with a dense, inky core. The palate is layered and commanding, delivering waves of blackberry, cassis and dark plum wrapped in mocha, chocolate and licorice. Subtle savoury complexities emerge with hints of beef stock, soy, cold tea and earthy spice, creating a multi-dimensional and compelling profile. There is real concentration here, yet the wine maintains balance, drive and impressive length through fine, structured tannins.
Awarded an outstanding 98 Points, this is a benchmark Marananga Shiraz built for collectors and serious red wine lovers. It delivers both immediate impact and significant cellaring potential.
Pair with slow-cooked beef ribs, charcoal-grilled rib eye, braised lamb shoulder, venison, or aged cheddar. Decant to fully appreciate its depth and power.

"From vigneron school of quintessential Barossa Shiraz, sourced from cuttings off seriously old vines on his vineyard in the Valley’s western district of Marananga. A tutorial in the meeting of powerful Barossa Shiraz fruit and fine oak maturation managed across 18 months in second use barrels. Royal purple in the glass, dark coffee, pain au chocolat, nutmeg led baking spices to the nose, elevating compote plum that soon finds its savoury counterpoints via long, fine-grained tannins, impressively integrated across the whole length of the palate, finished with a subtle olive-like edge. Total control at all times, seriously fine wine with seductive drink-now attractions and long-life ambitions of even greater pleasures."
96 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot
"Very much a Barossa institution and his wines from this new operation are proving to be quite thrilling. Put bluntly, this is not only utterly delicious but outstanding value. From vineyards in excess of 30 years old, mostly in the Marananga and Seppeltsfield subregions, the wine spends a year and a half maturing in 4,500-litre French oak foudres. Under cork. Opaque maroon in colour, there is power, balance, concentration, great length and intensity in this line. The oak integration is impressive, and we have flavours weaving through notes of chocolate, blackberries, cassis, mocha and licorice. Hints of beef stock, soy and cold tea lurk in the background. Youthful, but ever so promising, this is absolutely cracking drinking and should be so for at least the next ten to fifteen years. Love it."
