The Brookland Valley Discovery Margaret River Tempranillo 2022 is a beautifully expressive cool-climate red from one of Western Australia’s most acclaimed estates, crafted with a “hands-off” winemaking approach to preserve purity and fruit intensity. In the glass, it shines a vivid mid-red with a vibrant cherry hue, while the aromatic profile unfolds with lifted rose petals, bright cherry, Turkish delight and cola, gently layered with subtle vanilla bean and coffee-spice derived from time in premium oak. The palate is medium-bodied and wonderfully detailed, with vibrant cherry and juicy plum flavours at its core, evolving into darker notes of chocolate, mocha and delicate savoury tannins that add depth, texture and length. Its seamless tension between bright fruit and savoury complexity earned a 90-Point rating from Ray Jordan Wine Pilot, showcasing the quality of fruit sourced from a James Halliday 5-Red-Star Winery that has previously been named Halliday’s Winery of the Year.
The finish is long, structured and food-friendly, revealing a graceful line of fine tannin that makes it an exceptional match for chargrilled lamb cutlets with rosemary, slow-braised beef cheek, wood-fired pizza with nduja, or Spanish-inspired dishes like chorizo and roast capsicum. Built from vineyards established in 1984, the wine reflects the pedigree of Margaret River Tempranillo and the minimal-intervention approach that allows the region’s signature elegance, depth and natural concentration to shine through. The result is a modern, layered, savoury red designed to be enjoyed now for its vibrancy, but one that will also reward short-term cellaring.
90 Point Rated - Ray Jordan Wine Pilot
"This medium bodied fragrant and highly perfumed take on this Spanish variety is sourced from around the State. Cherry and dark chocolate with a licorice thread leads into a smooth red fruit dominant palate. Delicious and ready to drink."
