The ruggedly beautiful massifs its almost 600 metres above sea level and is characterised by ancient granite boulders dating back over 360million years. A huge granite peninsula, pushed up from the ocean, the Strathbogie Ranges has emerged as a truly distinct, high-altitude and cool climate region, helping us to produce intense wines that are elegant and full of character.

Barton Steer Limestone Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

South Australia's Limestone Coast is home to our vineyard and the source of Barton Steer wines. Full, rich and powerful reds reflect the strength of the region, and beauty of the surrounding landscape. Carefully selected grapes from Limestone Coast, gently pressed and slowly fermented, aged with American oak for 12 months to allow the fruit aromas to develop and tannins to naturally soften.

Fruit was sourced from our finest section of Cabernet Sauvignon from three outstanding vineyards all within the famed terra rossa soils we are so famous for. The 2019 vintage was excellent with warm dry summer followed by cool autumn temperatures which are perfect conditions from Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra in particular. A quick flowering period with warm temperatures enables a great fruit set which gave us dark coloured wine with outstanding fruit concentration and acid structure. Fermentation was in both open and static fermenters, extended maceration was key to develop complexity between the fruit and tannins. Matured in a mixture of new and second fill French oak for 24 months.
