Fu Barossa Valley Shiraz 2010
A vivid purple crimson colour. Exceptionally rich and generous aromas, earth, chocolate and licorice hits are followed by an intense array of black fruits with white pepper, pencil shavings, smoked meat and cedar. This is a big wine there is obvious black fruits of all kinds, a earthy character is evident reflecting age plus cassis with a touch of acid which obviously gives longevity. The dense fruit and oak characters have blended together wonderfully and coat the mouth to ensure the finish is epically long and you get some very subtle nutmeg and saddle notes. A big, bold, chunky style of Barossa Valley Shiraz the way it should be.
Fu Barossa Valley Shiraz 2014
Vibrant dark black ruby core with a bright purple red hue. An overload of aromas, chocolate and licorice spice jump out of the glass, followed by intense dark cherry and blackberry, the backbone is intertwined perfectly oak, whilst white pepper, smoked meat and cedar provide further depth of aroma. The palate in big and bold, there’s rich fruit up front, which leaps from the glass. There is chocolate, black berry and cassis with a great acidity that gives length, which keeps the dense fruit impressively in balance. Dense and mouth filling, the finish goes on and on. A big, bold, chunky style of Barossa Valley Shiraz the way it should be.
Olssen of Watervale The Olssen Six Clare Valley 2015
Black with currant red flashes. Ripe plums, dark chocolate with a touch of white pepper. Freshly cut plums work with dark cherry flavours. Soft, savoury tannins and good acid add structure and length to this voluptuous wine. Well-integrated oak provides the perfect backbone with tannins and acid all playing a supporting role.
Evil Incarnate Shiraz 2017
Crimson with purple magenta hues. Expressive bouquet with dark berry fruit, some white pepper, vanillin oak and some further depth coming from chocolate and mocha notes. Quite a robust full flavoured Shiraz with blackberry the figurehead here whilst some alluring flavours of smoky oak, cinnamon, fruitcake and chocolate all intermingle through the middle palate before finishing with velvety smooth tannins.
101 Margaret River Shiraz 2016
Bright spicy Shiraz aromas of white pepper and blackberry. The palate is medium bodied with a vibrant spicy lift and nicely resolved tannins to finish. A year in Margaret River for fine rich balanced reds, quite fleshy and with approachable tannins. A warm stretch during the growing season finished reds off with generous forward fruit and soft appealing structures.
Viking Grand Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
Deep dark black/purple with red hues. Aromatic nose with plum, black fruits and lovely spice. Notes of Christmas cake, dark chocolate and violets. Uncompromising Shiraz that is both elegant and powerful at the same time. There is exceptional structure, that delivers blackberry, raspberry and hints of pepper, finishing with impeccably polished tannins which balance the natural fruit acid to ensure the longevity of this exceptional wine from another great Barossa vintage.
The Wine Barossa Valley Marananga Shiraz 2016
Purple and crimson with a dense centre and a youthful edge. Blackberries, mulberries and cherries with hints of charred oak. There is plenty going on with black cherries, vanilla, and some saddle leather characters. The fruit is quite solid yet repressed by the oak and tannin. Will lay down well with some time in the cellar, fruit will prevail creating an elegant, savoury style of wine.
Trophy Winning Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2015 Cleanskin
Medium burgundy in colour. Red and blackberry fruits on the nose. The palate has flavours of dark berries, plum, spice and violets interwoven with beautifully balanced oak flavours. The elegantly balanced tannins and acid combine for a rounded and delicious blend.
Limb Vineyards Home Block Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
Opaque to brick red in colour. Quite aromatic for such a traditional style Barossa Shiraz, the nose displays abundant red fruit with layers of plush dark cherry, black currant and a lovely earth character balanced by soft French oak. A medium to full-bodied Barossa Shiraz highlighting why I feel the Western Barossa Valley produces the best fruit. It’s got lovely fine grain tannins that are supported by red fruits and balanced acidity. Notes of Cherry, licorice and white pepper add complexity while the balance of fruit intensity and oak provide this wine with great line and length.
Fu Barossa Valley Shiraz 2010
This wine is sourced from a single old vine vineyard from what we consider one of the Barossa Valley’s finest growers. 2010 was one of the standout vintages of the last decade. An ideal vintage, which gave us the benefit of perfectly, ripened fruit. The smooth flow of vintage allowed us to select specific fruit parcels and allowed us to define the wine as much in the vineyard as the winery. These grapes are brought into the winery, and crushed into old vats where the fermentation is initiated by “wild” yeasts found on the grape skins. Careful extraction and short post fermentation maceration is followed by soft pressing. The wine is transferred into brand new oak barrels where the malolactic fermentation is completed before racking and maturation for 36 months in barrels. A careful assemblage and barrel selection is followed by minimal filtration and bottling.
A wine which will benefit immensely with time in the cellar to settle and develop. It will have a great lifespan of around 15 years plus.
Fu Barossa Valley Shiraz 2014
This wine is sourced from a single old vine vineyard from what we consider one of the Barossa Valley’s finest growers. 2014 was another standout vintage despite challenging conditions. It gave us the benefit of perfectly, ripened fruit as we picked on berry flavour ripeness prior to a large rain event. The smooth flow of vintage allowed us to select specific fruit parcels and allowed us to define the wine as much in the vineyard as the winery. These grapes are brought into the winery, and crushed into old vats where the fermentation is initiated by “wild” yeasts found on the grape skins. Olssen of Watervale The Olssen Six Clare Valley 2015
Carefully selected parcels of fruit were selected from the Watervale region in the Clare Valley. We picked in the evening in and decided to macerate over night and crush the fruit early the next morning. The wine was fermented in older French barrels, and left to age in oak before we selected only the best barrels of the vintage for inclusion in the final six blend then the wine was blended and bottled with minimal fining or filtration.
Evil Incarnate Shiraz 2017
Select parcels of fruit were selected due to their intense fruit flavour and then were picked, transported to winery, crushed immediately. The skin and juice mix is allowed to warm naturally over several days after which it begins fermentation. Fermentation is held cool which helps to retain bright primary fruit characters in the wine. Following ferment, the wines are carefully pressed, separating them from the skins. The wine is then run down to oak barrels for maturation, before being blended, filtered and then finally bottled.
101 Margaret River Shiraz 2016
The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Calneggia Family Vineyards Estate Vineyard in the northern part of the Margaret River wine region. Fermented for seven days on skins, pressed and run off to oak, the wine was matured for twelve months prior to release.
Viking Grand Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
The Shiraz grapes were individually picked out in the vineyard for their exceptional quality and picked separately to the rest of the vineyard. The grapes are then picked and delivered to the winery and gently worked through the de-stemmer before being transferred to an open fermenter. The juice is pumped over twice a day for seven days to extract, homogenize and regulate temperature before draining and being basket pressed. The skins are then gently pressed for approximately 20 hours to retrieve more of the essence of the grape. After the wine has completed its malolactic ferment, it is matured in new and seasoned French and American oak barrels prior to bottling.
The Wine Barossa Valley Marananga Shiraz 2016
Hand selected and hand picked fruit was used for this wine and it underwent fermentation in stainless steel open top fermenters, and was pumped over twice a day, the wine was pressed then transferred to new hogshead barrels where it completed its malolactic fermentation. The wine was topped regularly and racked once whilst maturing in barrel.
Limb Vineyards Home Block Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
Fruit was picked in the late evening into the early hours of the morning then transported directly to the winery where the fruit was crushed, de-stemmed and left on skins in open top fermenters for 8-10 days. A slow ferment then occurred with temperatures ranging from 15-18C, the wine had pump-overs and hand plunging to ensure fruit intensity. Once fermentation was completed the wine was pressed into old French barrels that were re-shaved to ensure the wine received just the right amount of oak and that it did not over power the fruit. The wine spent 24 months in oak to mature until I felt the time was right to bottle. Final barrel selection ensured only the best of the best wine made it into the final blend before bottling with minimal fining or filtration.
