Tasting Notes

The Colonial Estate Exodus Barossa Valley Chardonnay

Bright green with pale straw edge. Wonderful purity is obvious initially on the nose with fruit driven aromas of melon, peach and a slight hint of nut. Lovely citrus flavours with an array of fruits including, peach, nectarine and melon developing into a secondary layer of flavours of fig, lees and a touch of oak provide a creamy touch. Tight and focused on the finish with great depth of flavour and a lovely touch of natural fruit acidity.

Normans Old Vine Barossa Valley Chardonnay

Norman Wines is one of the oldest and most respected names in Australian winemaking. Since 1853, when Jesse Norman planted his first vines in South Australia, Normans has developed a reputation for producing premium wines of elegance and finesse. This Creamy Chardonnay is beautifully balanced with fresh flavours of citrus and tropical fruit. It is an elegant wine with a buttery texture that is to be enjoyed now.

Watershed The Farm Margaret River Chardonnay 2018

The nose displays bright peach and citrus aromas. On the palate, this wine is fresh and creamy with a soft finish.

Walker Barossa Valley Chardonnay

Pale straw in colour, the nose exhibits powerful aromas of peaches and cream, with subtle hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla, along with ripe tropical fruits. The palate is richly flavoured with peach, pineapple and apricot, followed by a buttery toast character which gives a creamy mouthfeel. The sweet-fruited, complex and densely flavoured palate is creamy and decadent, yet the finish is crisp and clean with wonderful length of flavour.

Songlines Estates McLaren Vale Chardonnay 2016

Pale Straw in colour. Lovely aromas with alluring multi-dimensional layers, there are notes of lemon, lime and fig with touches of nuts and frangipani flowers. Pears, lime, lemon with beautifully balanced structured acid. There is a herbal edge with great length and loads of complexity which continue to develop with every glass.

Sidewood Estate Stablemate Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2017

Aromas and flavours of peach, nashi pear and green apple. The finish is crisp and clean acidity.

148 Browns Road Family Reserve Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay 2016

Driven by white- flesh peach and melon, the bouquet is lifted by undertones of summer honeysuckle and citrus notes. On the palate stone fruit dominates, balanced with hints of tropical pineapple. A brief period in oak provides creamy cashew-like nuttiness and velvet mouth feel.

Sidewood Estate Stablemate Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2017

90 Points James Halliday Wine Companion

Produced from a combination of estate parcels, different clones and picking dates employed. French oak-matured, 25% new. Stone fruit and melon aromas are accentuated by a touch of oak on the bouquet, the palate showing similar qualities with grapefruit and green apple also in the flavour spectrum. It's got a nicely rounded feel with some crisp acidity to finish.

With receiving 90 points from James Halliday, The Sidewood Stablemate outpointed the following;

Corduroy Mansfield Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2017 (85Pts JH & $42)

Sepp No.5 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2017 (89Pts JH & $30)

Malcolm Creek Vineyard Special Edition Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2017 (88Pts JH & $30)

Highly Rated Patrick Eckel

The nose has some canned corn notes to white peach and some oddly smokey aromatics. The palate shows fresh straw and mellow stone fruits with a touch of citrus and oyster shell. Acid is well handled and the wine has good mouthfeel without reaching any great heights.

Technical

Songlines Estates McLaren Vale Chardonnay 2016

Hand harvested from vineyards located in the Mediterranean grape growing region of McLaren Vale. The wine was crushed under controlled temperatures prior to being gently bag pressed to tank before being racked. Selected parcels then were matured in the finest of Burgundian oak prior to being bottled then aged in bottle for 6 months prior to release.

Sidewood Estate Stablemate Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2017

Winemaker Darryl Catlin carefully selects the best parcels of fruit according to ripeness from the various blocks of Chardonnay that are made up of three French Chardonnay clones. Each clone has its own flavour spectrum that is individual, where some are picked earlier to obtain citrus characters and other clones are picked later to obtain melon and grapefruit flavours. Once picked, the bunches were sorted and gently pressed, prior to wild ferment and maturation in 100% French oak, 25% new for 10 months. Barrel selected prior to bottling.

148 Browns Road Family Reserve Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay 2016

Single vineyard grown and hand-picked from the celebrated cool climate region of Mornington Peninsula, only the finest fruit is used to create this elegant Chardonnay.
