The Colonial Estate Envoy Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2015

Crimson red. Perfumed smoky aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and graphite.  The palate starts off with some sweet dark berry flavours but then takes a darker turn, notes of bitter chocolate, black cardamom and espresso are all evident. A serious style of this traditional Southern Rhone blend its seriously structured but has some obvious concentration and deep, sweet fruit. 


Carrot Block Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017 By Ivan Limb

Deep rich crimson in colour. Lovely rich bouquet of chocolate, plums and blackberry. The palate is highlighted by intense flavours of black forest fruits, plums and mulberries. Aged in oak the flavour has infiltrated the wine without overpowering it. It is a full-bodied with soft velvety tannins and a long finish. 


Conquest Brut Cuvee Nv

Pale straw with brilliant clarity. A wine exhibiting fresh up front fruit flavours with intense notes of citrus blossom and lychee. A fresh and lively style of wine with beautiful fruit weight on the palate. It exhibits the same fruit aromas as the bouquet with citrus blossom and lychee. It has fine persistent bubbles and a clean refreshing finish.


Crosswords Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Crimson red and bright lush purple. Ripe cassis and blackberry on the nose integrated with red cedar, nutmeg and cinnamon. Wonderful structure and persistence, fine tannins and balanced acidity. The rich flavours of blackberry are evident from start to finish while cinnamon flavour derived from French oak gives another layer of complexity.


Limb Vineyards Reserve Eden Valley Riesling 2017

Excellent combination of citrus and tropical fruit aromas reflect the nose although on the palate it is balanced by crisp acidity, orange blossom, wet slate and talc giving a wonderfully structured and lengthy finish.Lifted citrus and tropical aromas with a layer of wet slate and flower blossom. Pale green/straw in colour.


Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Grenache 2016

Bright ruby and cherry red with youthful purple hues. Mint and spicy wild cherry. A very vibrant Grenache with sweet mulberry fruit as well. Full bodied with intense flavours of cassis and plums, which are well complimented by traces of pepper and spice. This Grenache has a strong concentration of fruit flavour highlighted by a sweetness, which goes perfectly with the firm yet subtle tannins.


Limb Vineyards Reserve Barossa Valley Chardonnay 2017

Pale straw colour with a green tint. An inviting and creamy aroma with fresh peach, grapefruit and melon combining with a touch of oak to add to the complexity. This wine illustrates exactly how I have been handcrafting premium wine for my entire life, in the vineyard. The terror and microclimate of specific blocks produce something different each year. This year I selected the fruit due to the tropical fruits that flow onto the palate morphing into peach and melon flavours in the mouth. Hints of nutty and creamy barrel ferment characters add to the picture and the finish is long, fruity and zesty, balanced with some minerality and great acidity.


Bin 1838 Premium Reserve Shiraz 2017

Full of dark fruit aromas including blackberry and plum. Freshly cut fruit flavours of blood plum, blackcurrant and cherries. A complex wine from well integrated oak which provides a spicy kick whilst the tannin balance is impeccable ensuring a smooth full bodied wine.


Normans Retro Series Clare Valley Riesling 2016

Vibrant pale straw in colour. The bouquet has lifted aromas of fresh limejuice with hints of orange blossom. The palate is fresh, bright and lively bursting with limes, green apple, citrus and mineral acidity.


The Colonial Estate Explorateur Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017

Deep purple with red brick flash around edge. Blackberry fruits with hints of licorice, oak and aniseed. The palate is softly spoken and fruit driven initially with blackberries, plums and licorice notes giving your insight into what is ahead. An approachable mid palate, which is full-flavored, while the fine-grained tannins finish with complex notes of olives, cashew nuts and oak. An alluring finish, which is moreish and smooth, yet has great length.

Technical:

The Colonial Estate Envoy Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2015

Envoy is probably the most European in style wine that we make in Australia and has been confused from time to time with a wine from the Southern Rhone. As ever, the grapes are picked and given a French twist in their winemaking to deliver something slightly different. Fermentation is French for up to two-thirds of the wine made the rest vinified in a more standard Australian way. Aged in oak for 12 months then in bottle for an additional 12 months prior to release.

Premium parcels of fruit from cooler growing regions across South Australia were selected for this fantastic example of sparkling wine. The fruit was harvested then gently pressed to retain varietal character and freshness, which is something we made a priority with this wine. Winemaking techniques included fermentation with solids as well as cool and warm fermentation. These techniques improved texture and softness without sacrificing the varietal characters we wanted to portray.


Crosswords Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Fruit was harvested from a single vineyard on the red terra rossa soils in the heart of Coonawarra. Following on from picking we crushed the fruit and allowed fermentation with some whole berries to enable vibrant and pure fruit flavour to shine. The wine was matured in older French oak for 12 months to allow some subtle oak flavour to invade the highly aromatic and concentrated fruit character and also achieve added length and tannin definition then bottled with minimal fining and filtration.


Limb Vineyards Reserve Eden Valley Riesling 2017

I sourced Riesling fruit from an old friend of mine near Angaston (approximately 400 metres above sea level which is one of the critical reasons Eden Valley produces stunning versions of cool climate white wines. In the winery I keep it very simple; gently press the free run, ferment in stainless steel then leave on fine lees for just to build more texture and weight. This wines was then lightly fined, filtered and bottled.


Normans Old Vine McLaren Vale Grenache 2016

Fruit was picked at optimum ripeness then fermented at warm temperatures. Following fermentation, the wine was put into older, French barrels to add a very slight oak smoothness but to retain its fresh varietal fruit flavours.


Limb Vineyards Reserve Barossa Valley Chardonnay 2017

Crushed immediately after picking with minimal skin contact of 1 - 3 hours in the press. The majority of the blend is cold fermented in stainless steel for 8-10 days at 12-15C, with selected yeast and some lees maturation. A small parcel of the wine, approximately 25%, is aged in 1 year old French oak to soften the palate and malolactic fermentation induced to add further complexity to the style.


Normans Retro Series Clare Valley Riesling 2016

Select parcels of fruit were sourced from a single vineyard in the iconic Clare Valley region for this limited edition wine. The fruit was hand picked during the cool early hours of the morning. The fruit was then rapidly transported to the winery and immediately crushed, chilled and pressed, where the free run juice and pressings were separated. The juice is cold settled for 3-4 days, racked off solids and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Post fermentation individual batches are blended to style then the finished parcels are carefully assessed, with only the finest chosen for the final blend prior to bottling.


The Colonial Estate Explorateur Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017

The vineyards that make up Explorateur are based in the northwestern Barossa Valley. This is a belt of land/terroir that runs from just to the northwest of Tanunda – Marananga, Greenock, Moppa, Ebenezer, and through to Stockwell, just north of Nuriootpa. Cropping levels are kept low to ensure fruit flavour is focus. The same equipment that is accorded to our more expensive wines is made available to Explorateur. Fermentation is French in approach for up to two thirds of the wine made; the rest is vinified in a more Australian way.
