Thompson Steer Cellar Release Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

This rich and fruit-driven wine embodies bold notes of ripe-dark fruits such as blackberry and cherry complemented by hints of pepper spice. The wine is beautifully balanced and structured.

Monolith Vintners Monolithic Old Vine Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Deep ruby crimson colour. A massive intense and enticing nose, the initial hit of exotic fruit once allowed to breathe will mellow. Black berry and dark cherry are the dominant character whilst varietal character of cassis is also very evident. The French oak influence is still evident despite its age and highlights the quality of the new large format oak used. Concentrated, tremendous texture and depth are hallmarks of this wine. The great richness which comes from black fruits flavours is immense, brooding and dense. The age of the wine is evident through notes of earth and leather saddle although the fruit is just so potent that they are just a side show. This style of wine requires decanting and time to breathe to soften prior to consuming although will be cellared prior to release the wine has the fruit, alcohol and tannin structure to ensure cellaring for many more years where it will continue to evolve.

Shanahans The Reaper Barossa Valley Shiraz 2020

Concentrated fruit flavours of blackberry, plum, black olive, dark chocolate and earth. Allowing the wine time to open up will reveal a natural fruit elegance and perfectly engulfed oak flavours. The finish is long with perfectly balanced natural fruit acid and silky-smooth tannins which will ensure the longevity of this release.

Kilikanoon Blocks Road Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Brick red in colour with youthful crimson hues. Multilayered and intense, with attractive flavours of cherries and blackberries, subtle leafiness and hints of emerging cigarbox combining on the nose, further enhanced by smoky oak char. Pitch perfect with seductively polished tannins, dark fruit flavours and textural consistency, with juicy cassis, bell pepper, and lingering oak persistence.

The Colonial Estate InExile Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021

Deep opaque red to black in colour with vivid purple hues. Complex bouquet featuring alluring dark chocolate, forest fruits, fleshy plum with underlying earthy nuances, which give the immediate impact of a soft well, structured wine. The palate is voluptuous with a real rich velvety texture expected in top quality Barossa reds from an outstanding vintage. The mid palate is an assortment of Christmas pudding, black olives, freshly cut plum, oak and earth. A true reflection of Barossa Shiraz from a great vintage and it finishes with some classically fine tannins, which linger and draw you into this seamless classic Barossa Valley Shiraz.

Kopparossa Coonawarra Reserve Shiraz 2018

Deep, earthy red with purple and plum coloured hues. Toasty, spicy, cherry plum, chocolate with a hint of mint. Velvety, ripe fleshy cherry fruit flavours with a lingering astringency- from firm supple grape and oak tannins. Still a youthful wine that will develop into a bigger, richer, complex individual, as time goes on.

Kaesler Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Very earthy Cabernet with olive leaf, cedar spice and layered with red stone fruit, Satsuma plums and blueberry. Soft elegant palate, very drinkable even in its youth, partly due to good balance of flavours between the fruit characters and savoury notes from the oak.

Technical:

Monolith Vintners Monolithic Old Vine Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

The vintage indicated early the supreme quality that would be produced by the dry grown, old vines that yielded the fruit we isolated for this special once off trial. Our commitment to making French influenced Iconic Australian wine lead us to the Coonawarra region and we felt our style would best benefit from fruit from this region. We hand-picked the fruit and it was transported to the winery where it was gently de-stemmed into concrete open top fermenters. It was then carefully nurtured for 7 days on skins with pump overs occurring twice daily, varying in duration and intensity. When primary fermentation was almost complete, the wine was drained from the skins and the must is gently basket pressed for 8 hours. It is then run directly into new French Puncheon barrels (500 litres) where it spent the next 60 months of its life and we believe is a world first for barrel aging such a wine. The wine was then blended, and only the best barrels selected to be bottled without the use of filtration or fining. Aged in bottle before just 500 six packs were released.

A wonderful example of traditional French style Cabernet Sauvignon with our individual Australian twist which will stand the test of time, ensure it is allowed to breathe for at least 1-2 hours prior to consuming.

Shanahans The Reaper Barossa Valley Shiraz 2020

Sourced from a single old vineyard in the Greenock sub region of the Barossa Valley on the Western Ridge. The Shiraz grapes were individually picked out in this vineyard for their exceptional quality just for this specific wine as the vintage conditions ensured small bunches and bunch numbers with tiny concentrated berries which I felt was perfect for this limited release and the style I wanted to achieve. The grapes were picked and delivered to the winery for crushing and were fermented in one small batch. Fermented with submerged cap in a small open top stainless-steel fermenter the skins were basket pressed and combined with the juice before being drained into barrel for 24 months maturation prior to bottling with minimal fining and filtration.

Kilikanoon Blocks Road Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

The vineyards elevated position, cool nights and warm days during the harvest period, has defined the wines elegance, flavour ripeness and distinctive regional and varietal characters, in this highly prized Clare Valley Cabernet.

Matching new technologies with traditional vinification techniques such as basket pressing, ageing each separate parcel in a combination of new and more seasoned French oak casks for sixteen months and bottling the final cuvee both unfined and unfiltered has given the wine additional complexity and cellaring potential.

The Colonial Estate InExile Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021

The fruit for this Shiraz was sourced from a single old vineyard in the Marananga region in the Barossa Valley. The vineyard was severely pruned and as a result of this and minimal water they produced just one tonne to the acre. The grapes were all hand picked and a small selection from the most western edge of the Shiraz block was isolated by the winemaker and vigneron as they had such outstanding quality. The grapes were transported to the winery in the early hours of the morning to avoid the summer heat where they were again sorted then de-stemmed and crushed before being co-fermented in large wooden vats after extreme cold maceration. The wine had their malolactic in new French oak, and is thereafter in the same new French barrels for aging. The best barrels were then selected after 12 months in oak to be used in the final blend and bottled with minimal filtration. In the winery the final 12 barrels used were isolated from all other wines and we considered them to be inexile and hence the name was born.

91 Point Rated - Aaron Brasher The Real Review

"Dense, dark and youthful in the glass. Aromas of dark fruits, plum pudding, oak, vanilla and mocha. Powerful and full flavoured on the palate. Fleshy, plum, mulberry, sweet oak and chocolate: plenty of power here. Tannins are shapely and the acid provides freshness and cut. A bit chunky at this point and in need of some time."

Kilikanoon Blocks Road Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

94 Point Rated - Wine Pilot

93 Point Rated - Jane Faulkner James Halliday's Wine Companion

"Nicely pitched with a vibrancy throughout, starting with cassis and mulberries spiced with bay leaves, star anise and black olives. A full-bodied wine but it's not weighty. The grainy tannins edge their way to a long finish."

92 Point Rated - Joe Czerwinski Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2018 Blocks Road Cabernet Sauvignon offers up hints of sage, bay leaf and cassis, buttressed by hints of vanilla and cedar. It's medium to full-bodied, smooth and silky, with a line of acidity that runs from the front of the palate through the long, mouthwatering finish. Not a big, huge, ripe Cabernet, it's more about focus and harmony—and for the $30 SRP, it's a bargain."

91 Point Rated - Christina Pickard Wine Enthusiast

"A fresh, fruity and unmistakably Aussie Cab, this opens with aromas of ripe strawberry and red currant, vanilla pod, clove, dried herbs and warm tar. The palate is initially quite austere but after swirling in glass, flavor depth and textural richness emerge, showing fleshy berry fruit, crisp acidity and leathery tannins. Drink now through 2030.
