Oyster Bay Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris offers the flavours and aromas of delicately scented pear and nectarine with a crisp apple freshness and a hint of spice. It’s floral, fruity and equally enjoyable as an aperitif or matched with food.

Technical:

Hawke’s Bay has one of New Zealand’s warmest grape-growing climates, making it the ideal place to produce some of the country’s most unique styles of Pinot Gris. Sun-drenched Crownthorpe Terraces is regarded as one of the top wine producing sites and is home to our ripe, copper-toned Pinot Gris grapes. The landscape, with its backdrop of rolling limestone hills to the north and the stunning Ngaruroro River to the south, is a captivating sight and the perfect environment for our enchanting Pinot Gris to thrive.

The fruit is destemmed and transferred to tank presses where the free run juice is run off and separated before gentle pressing of the remaining fruit. The juice is cold settled to a clear state, racked into stainless steel fermentation tanks and then inoculated with a range of yeasts selected to retain varietal aromatics and character, and enhance complexity and aromaticity. A slow, temperature controlled fermentation is undertaken over a number of weeks. Post fermentation, the wine is lees stirred and aged in tank to add softness and texture. The wine is then racked and bottled young to ensure that the aromatic, crisp and elegant varietal characters are retained.
