Tasting Notes:

An elegant wine with intense aromas of dark red berries, savoury leather and cedar. The palate displays sweet raspberry and spice with a touch of mint and fine dusty tannins.

Technical:

Salena Estate started out crushing just a few hundred tonnes a year in 1988. 13 years later they had increased output by a factor of 20 to be a major player in the Australian wine industry. Salena specializes in making wines from Riverland fruit and almost always delivers wines which offer good bang for buck.

Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with lighter garnet hues on the rim. This has an elegantly concentrated and intense nose with packed aromas showing an amalgam of dark-red berry fruits melded with leather and dusty notes, along with eucalyptus, spices and camphor. The aromatics are firm and taut with an earthy rusticity. Medium-full bodied, juicy and sweet fruit flavours of dark raspberries and red berryfruit intermingle with subtle notes of leather, camphor, spices and nuts. The fruit sweetness is attractively balanced by the light, grainy tannin extraction and textures. As the wine flows, savoury leather, cedar and spice notes unfold, leading to a light, lingering finish. This is an elegantly sweet-fruited and well-textured Shiraz with some rustic leather, eucalyptus and nutty nuances providing interest. Match with game meat and semi-hard cheeses.
