Tasting Notes:

The d’Arenberg The Stump Jump McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a vibrant and finely structured expression of classic Australian Cabernet, crafted with the same attention to detail and heritage that defines this iconic producer. Sourced from mature McLaren Vale vineyards and shaped by traditional winemaking practices, this release opens with lifted aromas of ripe blackcurrant, cassis, mulberry and black cherry, layered with fragrant violets, spearmint, dried sage and subtle green peppercorn complexity that speaks to both varietal purity and regional character.

On the palate, it is full-bodied yet beautifully poised, delivering generous waves of juicy dark fruit, cherry and currant supported by a refined mineral, graphite-like edge that adds precision and depth. Fine-grained, chalky tannins frame the fruit effortlessly, creating a polished structure that carries through to a long, satisfying finish marked by lingering dark berries, gentle tobacco and cedar notes and a fresh, crunchy natural acidity.

Accolades & Awards:

92 Point Rated - Cameron Douglas Master Sommelier

"Opaque in appearance with a black purple core and pink rim. Aromas and flavours of blackberry and dark chocolate, raspberries and boysenberries, clove and vanilla. A palate filled with lots of texture and mouthfeel from an abundance of tannins frames by acidity then core ripe fruit flavours. Delicious, fresh and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2033."

91 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

"Fruit forward and inviting, the bouquet shows blackcurrant, dried herb, hazelnut and mixed spice aromas. The succulent palate is filled with ripe fruit intensity, backed by fine texture and chalky tannins, finishing long and sturdy. At its best: now to 2029."

Aaron Brasher The Real Review

"Dark plummy red in appearance. Lifted aromas of plum, mulberry, fruit pastilles and bramble. Dark fruited, chewy, firm and with plenty of drying tannins and grip. There's a good core of dark fruits here, but the tannins dominate and demand some protein. Decent value."

Stephen Wong The Real Review

"Very dark purple colour, this has a classic, dense cabernet nose of leafy blackcurrant, cassis, cedar and char. Robed in evident, drying tannins and oak, the flavours are actually rather forward and short, with some tart acidity on the back. Despite its fruitiness, this is heavily extracted and unbalanced without enough substance for the structure."
