Vibrant crimson with purple hues. Raspberry and spice with a subtle floral lift and background hints of cedar. Soft red and dark berry fruit with chalky tannins and a line of acidity which provides great length.
Born on 19 September 1895 in the Barossa Valley, Hugo Gramp lived and worked his entire life in this world-renowned wine region. Hugo’s grandfather, Johann Gramp, was one of the wine pioneers of this revered wine region, planting his first vines in 1847, and starting the wine business that would be later called G Gramp & Sons by Hugo's father Gustav, and that Hugo would one day lead. Today, St Hugo wines are prized by wine collectors and connoisseurs the world over, and Hugo’s legacy is celebrated at the St Hugo cellar door in the Barossa.
62% Grenache, 31% Shiraz, 7% Mataro
96 Point Rated - Dave Brookes Halliday Wine Companion
62/31/7% grenache/shiraz/mataro, the majority 70+yo vines; 16% whole bunches, 12% carbonic maceration; matured in old French oak for 8 months. Vivid red purple in the glass, super-ripe plum and blueberry notes are lead by wafts of frangipani over a base of exotic spice, amaro herbs, licorice, earth and cherry danish. A very modern, juicy take on the classic blend, with pure, juicy fruit, tight ripe tannin and a finish that lingers beautifully. It's just great, spicy drinking.
96 Point Rated - Ray Jordan The West Australian
"A delightfully pure and fragrant blend of Grenache Shiraz and Mourvedre with structure coming from the fine chalky tannins. It's a wine driven by the 62% Grenache from vineyards 100 and 80 years old. The older vineyard brings a graphite character, and the sandier vineyards bring more perfume. Wonderfully seductive scents with a superb texture and richness delivered with a high degree of finesse and subtlety. It only gets older oak, most of which is larger format puncheons and some vats. So this is a fruit in a big way. Red fruit is dominant with just a trace of graphite and certain pinot-noir-like viscosity. Love it."

Deep and vibrant purple colour from core to rim. Blood plums, morcilla and black slate aromatics. The palate is quite full, dark fruits are matched well to meaty and saline savoury elements. A good length is driven by fine-grained, drying tannins. Plenty of life ahead of it
