92 POINT RATED JAMES HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION RICHARD HAMILTON CAB SAUV
Vintage: 2017
Source/Region: Mclaren Vale, South Australia
Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Cellaring: Drink now
Bottle Top: Stelvin
Alcohol Content: 14.50
Standard Drinks: 8.60
Rich, ripe cassis fruit showing hints of mint with oak derived mocha and vanillin highlights. Full of vibrancy, this wine has round, succulent varietal fruit with long tannins that give persistence and length. This wine will be an attractive accompaniment to Venison, Beef Wellington, rich pasta.
Named after the picker’s hut at the front of the property, their Hut Block vineyards are planted on sand and black clay loam soils over a substructure of clay. We think that the intensity of their Cabernet Sauvignon can be attributed to these soils, while the mild maritime climate of McLaren Vale, in which cool evening and night breezes from the gully winds moderate the day time temperatures, suits this variety. Their emphasis is on low yielding vines that are pruned and trained to allow dappled light to reach the fruit zone to slow ripening and enhance aroma and flavour.
92 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
Estate-grown on four vineyard blocks, 6-7 days on skins, then pressed, part to finish its fermentation in new French oak. No more than medium-bodied, the fruit-oak-tannin trifecta is in excellent balance. Top value at this price.
90 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
The old ‘cabernet in a burgundy bottle trick’.
Squeaky clean red wine with plum, black cherry and peppercorn flavours flowing sweetly through the palate. Medium in weight, presented fresh, the ripeness pitched quite perfectly. Good value here.
