A medium bodied deep purple wine exhibiting bay/rosemary herb and blueberry aromas. The palate shows juniper/pepper, cherry stone and subtle blood plum flavours.
Quartz Hill Vineyard is nestled in the Victorian Pyrenees wine region near Avoca. We are indeed fortunate to grow grapes and make quality wines from this region.
Quartz Hill was first planted in 1995.
The grape vines respond beautifully to the soils and climates here. Our harsh cold winters and long dry summers ensure optiumum quality. Once in the winery, the intention is to let the natural terroir shine through. This is why we utilise such traditional winemaking techniques. Our aim is that each bottle of Quartz Hill wine be a quality expression of the place where it is grown.
Winemaker Darrin Gaffy takes care to ensure the flavours found out in the vineyard are maintained and enhanced by traditional winemaking processes.
All grapes are hand harvested typically between the months of March and May. The reds are crushed and destemmed, then put into open fermenters. They are hand plunged (no pumping) until the fermentation begins naturally with the indigenous yeast from our grapes. Once fermentation is over the wines are allowed to sit on their lees to build palate weight and texture for some time prior to going into a mixture of new and aged French oak barrels. Wines are racked after malolactic fermentation and carefully aged for around 18 months.
We believe the gentle, traditional treatment within the winery allows the wine to show its gentler side, with a more textural palate weight. We believe above all, that it produces a wine which will age well and be enjoyed for many years to come.
Highly Rated, James Halliday Wine Companion
Meaty, mid-weight wine offering berried, gamey fruit and a swagger if chewy tannin.

QWine Review,
A delicious medium bodied Shiraz from the Pyrenees region. This is the entry level Shiraz from Quartz Hill throwing up gentle clove, pepper, blue fruit and dark plum aromas. Solid drinking. I'd go here again for its approachability.
The Wine Front,
The back label uses the word “complement”. It uses the word correctly. That’s something of a rarity in the world of Australian-back-label-writing.
