The Palate shows flavours of ripe raspberry and cranberry fruits with silky tannins which give length ad finesse while finishing soft and full of flavour.
While the Pepperjack team have respect for traditional winemaking techniques, their style is dynamic and imaginative. Pepperjack winemakers are conscious of modern wine styles, and create wine that reflects their passion for the regions the wines are made from. This is reflective in all Pepperjack wines, as their rich and honest nature showcases outstanding qualities.
In regards to creating the 2019 Grenache, after crushing and destemming, the parcels of fruit were fermented separately in traditional style fermenters. The wines were gently pressed, racked and transferred partially into tank and oak before blending and bottling.
91 Point Rated - Ned Goodwin Halliday Wine Companion
This is good, but far from great. Not reaching its potential due to a risk-averse playbook. Plenty of fruit and oomph, but not enough lightness. Cherry liqueur, vanillan oak and bitter chocolate. A long generous finish that will please many, all the same.
90 Point Rated - Mike Bennie The Wine Front
Winemaker Richard Mattner worked at Wolf Blass from 1994, did correspondence, graduated and ended up at Wolf Blass, continued to climb rungs; he’s landed the Pepperjack gig and run at it. McLaren Vale and Barossa blend here. “My mum and dad have a one and quarter acre block that I grew up on and is 50-year-old Grenache, so have always enjoyed the variety”, Mattner says.
Cuddly Grenache of sumptuous mouthfeel, all velvety, creamy, pillowy, sweet fruited but with a nice chew of tannin and bright acidity, choc-malt notes in ripe raspberry, sweet spice in the mix too. Some cedary-twiggy notes in bouquet, not so much found in flavours. Of an ilk, bolder Grenache, done in an easy drinking style.
Highly Rated - Stuart Knox The Real Review
Medium intense ruby colour. Blueberries and sawdust nose. Dark fruits, African spice and wood shavings bound across the palate. The tannins provide some control into a dry and slightly warm finish. A vigorous wine.
