Tasting Notes:

The colour is a very deep garnet with an amaranth hue and the bouquet is fresh and lively exhibiting aromas of crushed blueberries, sage bush, fennel and tobacco leaf. The wine is extremely rich with fruit flavours of blue berry, black berry, and red currents supported with a seamless natural acid structure. Secondary notes exhibit hints of subtle French and American oak, leather, nutmeg and Marjoram the result of which is a very soft and subtle tannin structure that leads to a long and lingering finish

Technical:

Wineries reported outstanding quality for 2016 reds despite the compressed vintage. By all accounts and despite the challenging heat conditions the wine produced has been rated as excellent. Intakes recorded by wineries foreshadowed a similar sized harvest to 2015 despite the climatic influences and water pressures. There were some difficulties with scheduling, as a result of the climatic conditions, the need to schedule deliveries a little earlier than normal to counteract the challenge of accelerated ripening at receival points.

Accolades & Awards:

91 Point Rated - Huon Hooke

"Very youthful, bright, deep purple colour. The bouquet is bright, youthful, concentrated and loaded with violets and dark berries, blueberry too, while the palate is fresh and elegantly crafted, with slightly elevated acidity and understated tannins. A floral, seemingly cool-grown cabernet with complexity and cellaring potential. A remarkable effort assuming it's from the Riverland."

Highly Rated - Wine Enthusiast Magazine

"This wine offers a basket of brambly berry fruit but is really all about the spice and savory umami elements, along with characteristic pencil lead and toasty oak. There's a lovely burst of acidity on the palate that lifts the berry fruit. It's cinched by tight dusty tannins and spicy toasty oak. It is a good value bottle, just as was intended."

Highly Rated - Patrick Eckel

"I am consistently impressed at what Paringa can do at such a low price point. This wine won’t wine gold medals but it will be sure to impress the masses at a low price. A medium red in colour with ripe plum and blackberry along with cedar and spice; The palate is big, juicy and expansive with heavy oak met wit acidity in equal measure but it works well for the style. Not overly varietal but at $12 there is value to be had."
