Tasting Notes:

The nose is bursting with dense, juicy black fruits. Aromas of black cherry, blueberry and blackcurrant with ink and violets. The palate continues with plenty of bright, fresh fruit. There’s black cherry as well as blackberry and boysenberry. The wine is rich and textured with enough rustic tannin to keep the wine savoury and moreish. Drink with stewed or braised meats.

Technical:

After a dry spring, December and January were cooler than average. February was warmer which completed the ripening perfectly and resulted in well balanced healthy grapes.

This wine made itself. Beautifully ripe grapes were harvested in the cool evening and the naturally occurring yeast in the vineyard piggybacked on the grapes into the winery. These yeast conducted the fermentation, and once finished slowly settled to the bottom of the tank. The resultant clear wine was taken off the top and bottled unfiltered.

Located on the Murray River just up stream from the town of New Residence, this picturesque vineyard, planted on deep red sandy loam has been meticulously tended by hand using first principal biodynamic methods for many years. Recently certified BD, and organically certified for over 15 years.

Accolades & Awards:

16/20 Jancis Robinson

When I tasted it then, I wrote this tasting note: 'Lovely bright crimson. Definitely Bordelais. Picked early February. Vinified and screwcapped. Fresh and fruity par excellence.
